81-2 competition pkg?

How do you tell if a 81 or 82 car is a competition group/pkg car? I have looked through the option codes and dont see an option code for it like some other special models. Do you look for a bunch of seperate option codes? Is there any difference between an 81 & an 82?

Thanks for any help and direction, Dave

I can't remember the option number but the main visuals are: Front & rear spiolers, gold colored anodized wheels, and larger front brakes.

I think it was 82 only and just the brakes and cosmetics of the 83 S model, but still with the 4.5L older motor.

So do a lot of 78's 79's etc. just not from the factory. Some people like to "upgrade" after an accident usually to parts off a newer car. Not seen as a plus to most Porsche guys.

In 1981 the package included sport seats , wheels (16" Flat Dish), shocks and front and rear spoilers, possibly LSD as well. In 82 the Sport Seats were an option to the comp package.
I THINK the code was 471...sport group 1 AFAIK.

I had an 82 model and my codes were 471 ( sport group 1 ) and 409 ( sport seats ). My car did have the competition package. I have heard from others that the sport seat option was changed from 81 to 82....non powered as you said....which I really liked.

Thanks guys, so 471 is what I need to look for. Should it still have 220 for lsd or is that covered in code 471?

Best to verify you actually have the LSD rather than the code, check the trans ID, or with the car in the air turn one wheel and see if the other turns the same way or not.

So a G28/05 is regular 5sp for 81 but what would lsd be?

due to the sychro problem on early trans I think it is safe to say you have to verify limited slip through inspection... many have swapped trannies instead of rebuilding. I found out after I sold my early 928 that it didn't have the correct year tranny in it.

G28/05 shows the model year or trans version something like that, it should also have a few more digits like G28/05 xx yy ssss, where xx is blank or a differential code (12 AFAIK is LSD), yy has something to do with gear ratio options, and ssss is the serial number.

interesting!!! By 1984 the 'S' was the only available model. I have never seen a competition packaged 84 non 'S' before. Is it on the window sticker??? What option codes do you have? I'm curious now....

Looks like code 220 is LSD...Do you have that code?

http://www.928registry.org/928-Option-codes.htm

Interesting that code 471 on the registry is rear spoiler 87 to 89...so this code was "reused.
Also I noticed sport seats code 409 is 83 to 85...but I KNOW this was the code in 82 as well so there are some inaccuracies it appears in the different list of codes.
