Heres a link of it and a short video. Could you image spooling that thing up in the Mall Parking Garage?

This sold a few months ago, and was looking a bit less prepped.

What does that Hood Tube do? Is this an air intake? If so, it would look a whole lot better to disguise it somehow.

If its the same one, is a 75 hp generator turbine and the thing out the top is the exhaust.

How do you run the accessories like P/S, Alternator and A/C off a motor spooling up to 42,000 rpm? I'm assuming there must be some gearing down in front of the torque tube. I think it's a pretty impressive piece of engineering to make it work.

Having spent most of my life operating turbine engines...I have no idea what he is talking about when he mentions the "Boeing" turbine in that car. Boeing is an airframe producer; they have never built one engine.
-I suspect it is an Allison 250 modified with a chevy transmission to fit the 928. This actually isn't such a bad setup...if you can deal with the fact that: 1. Your engine idles at 80% of its redline... 2. It needs about 5 seconds to rev, with the clutch pushed in....from idle to redline [huge lag-!] 3. If you get tail-gated, your tail-gater will wind up with a melted plastic bumper, because the exhaust is well over 1500 degrees and there is a LOT of it- the exhaust pipe is about 12 inches across~ 4. How this thing would get better than 5 mpg on a good day is beyond me. Turbines HATE low altitude and they HATE idling. 5. I wonder if this individual knows what a "hot start" is. I also wonder if this individual knows the symptoms of a "silent stall", which can reduce a turbine engine to scrap in about 5 seconds.... -Folks, if you bid on this thing, and you have no experience with turbine engines you probably ought to also bid on an M28 engine on ebay at the same time. You're going to need it! N! |

Pretty cool I have to admit. But I'm sure it's better for shows than really driving on a reguler basis. I think would get hot in there with the exhaust right in front of you.

Neat idea! Not practical at all, but you'll be the star of any car show you attend!

And the helicopter it typically powers. Usually, these make about 450 hp, though some versions of this motor were rated at 734 hp. This turbine engine weighs about 250 pounds and is the size and shape of a vacuum cleaner.
Allison, also known as "Detroit Diesel Allison" was bought by Rolls Royce about 10 years ago, but this engine is still in production. Jay Leno's turbine motorcycle has a version of this engine installed. N! ![]() |

Oh boy, those damn Blackhawks always scared me when we would do training missions. Friggin' pilots were just as scary, buzzin the trees tilting the Heli with the door open. *****en stuff though.

Ha, I was a Medic when I was enlisted. I would have loved to be a Flight Medic. Became an MP when I got my Officers Commission. Most of my Blackhawk flights were during OCS and we were doing combat operations, they were pretty damn close to the Pine Trees in Fort Lewis, Washington. Other times, were during Recon missions during a Republican Convention in San Diego. Funny, the pilot hovered over the Convention for about 1/2 hour and the Secret Service were freaking out.
