Engine temp question
My 84S US spec has been running hot, at least according to the temp gauge. I have flushed the cooling system, changed the thermostat, standard temp, and both sealing rings. When cruising on the freeway at an easy 65mph on a cool day temp gauge runs between slightly below top white mark to slightly above and some times up towards red area.
After a drive today I pulled into my driveway, got out my infrared gun and checked temps. At outlet going to radiator I got 198 - 200. At inlet from radiator, 148 -150. The 198-200 seems pretty high for just idling in the driveway and inlet temps at 150. Is this normal? It seems to me the temps from the radiator indicate it is functioning pretty well but that I'm not getting very good water circulation through the engine. Could this be a problem with the water pump or are there other areas that should be checked?

When did you start to have heating problems??
After you replaced the thermostat?? If so then you might consider replacing the thermostat again and also checking the rear seal in the water bridge as well as checking the flex fan clutch working

It has been running hot for several months. I thought at first it was the thermostat so I replaced it along with the O ring and inner seal. This didn't make any difference. I purchased the lower temp. thermostat and installed it. While the temperature was lower for several miles, it soon climbed back up to the hot area. I then flushed the system and still no change. The fan seems to work well. At idle it pulls a fairly good volume of air. When it is idling I can feel a significant increase in the air temperature when the thermostat opens. I get several seconds of hot air and then back to warm air.
As the temperature coming form the radiator to the motor is always in the 148-150 range, I think the radiator/fan is working OK. It just seems that it has trouble moving enough water through the motor. Maybe I should put anew water pump on and see what happens. I remember reading in the forum of a couple of people who have had the impeller start slipping on the shaft.
