Got it running with new timing belt.....but
I just fired it up and it started up fine but it threw off the airconditioner belt. Now I never had tried the air conditioner on this car. Also it appears I have no heat only cold outside air now. I did have to refill the anitfreeze because I replaced the water pump. The over flow is still a little over half full. It took quite awhile to fill. My main concern now is no heat inside the car. It usually kicks out heat pretty fast but it's 30 degrees here although the car was in my heated garage until I backed it out to run maybe 10 minutes. I had just cut the airconditioner belt off to run the car. The clutch turns free on the compressor however.
Well, I got the darn t-belt on and no leaks and it started up just fine. |

with the coolant bottle cap off run the car with heater on full hot fan can be at position 2
and run the car till the radiator get hots and or the fan are cycling, replace the bottle cap and drive it for about 5 miles then let it cool off top up as necessary when the car is cold. For the belt might you have bent the drive pulley?? or was the belt not tensioned correctly. Make sure the vacuum line is connected to the HCV though it does fail open without vacuum

Good job on the timing belt.
They'll idle a long time before heating up. I'd be concerned about the AC belt. Are the pulleys all aligned when you eyeball it? The crank pulley is seated and has the right parts on it and behind it? They don't throw belts for no reason, you know that.

The AC was never run by me and maybe the system kicked it in and turned on the AC. Nothing was changed with respect to belts or pulleys. I tensioned them as per the manual, .4 inch play. I know I did not over tighten them. I figure the compressor might be frozen, but will investigate later. The pulleys went back on as came off, absolutely no change, I made sure of that. |

following the directions i posted will result in filling the heater core.
Note drive the car with the heater on full hot If there are other problems then you will have to investigate

When I bought my rebuilt AC compressor they told me to rotate the assembly a few times by hand before putting on a belt. I would see if it moves ok with the clutch engaged without a belt.

I wonder if the car has an electric boost heater? Because it would put out heat very fast before the motor could get hot. I did smell something funny coming out of the vents yesterday, but no heat. I only ran it 7 or 8 minutes. As to AC, I will check that out. I have a feeling the compressor is bad and froze up. The clutch is free and belt/pulley all the same as I took off. The AC pulley is right against the harmonic damper, last belt. I will have to energize the clutch and see if I can turn it by hand later. I never had the AC on, but it must have turned on by climate system or something. |

I checked the AC compressor. It appears to be OK and I can turn it by hand with the clutch engaged, so I have some kind of belt issue with that AC compressor. The belt I cut off is worn on one side all along it's entire length at the top side of the belt like something was cutting into it. I am going to get another belt AVX13 x 1125 and relook at the situation. |

if the belts getting cut then you have to figure out why, its possible that you might have a wrong size belt on the airpump and this then puts it out of position so to cause the AC belt to touch or you have a ac belts either too big or small and then this causes the rubbing

Update on the AC belt. I put a new one on and this time took a real hard look and made sure it was on correctly. What I might have done is test the tension on the lower part of the belt and with such a large pulley on the crank, the belt did not slip around and may have let it be slack on the top. This is all I can figure out, but it's fine now. The car is all back together, runs just great, now for some nice weather here.......well I have that new hood insulator to install next.......and then that $5,500 turbo boost kit.......just kidding.....don't need that......my hot rod, street racing days are long gone.....this car belongs at Road America, if I were to race that is, which I'm not!
