My 928 race car build progress photo thread

Hi guys,

Been building my racecar with my buddy over the last couple of years but getting close now.

Car is an '82 no-sunroof coupe, stripped of in-car undercoating.
'86.5 running gear: brakes, suspension, engine, ecu(s), harness, cooling.
928Turbosports/Porschesolutions turbo kit (stage 4)
Porschesolutions racing sway bar kit
Porschesolutions anti-bump-steer tie rods
Porschesolutions racing oil cooler (modified) kit
Porschesolutions 14" racing brake kit (not installed yet)
S4 LSD rebuilt by 928INTL transaxle, rebuilt 86.5 1/2 shafts.
13x10x1.5 Setrab NASCAR oil cooler, 23' of -10AN hose locates the cooler where the battery box was, pair of 3" NACA's force-feed the cooler via the rear 1/4 window.
Gauges are custom Speedhut gauges modeled after the Ferrari F430, & all have adjustable warning modes for high/low ranges, linked into a large warning light.
Face was laser-cut out of aluminum & covered in suede. Shade cover is suede covered Lexan.
Two Halon bottles: one hand-held, one cable-actuated.
Been wet-sanding all week: get's buffed on Sunday

get this: I found the car (for free) in a garage/barn outside of town, during a trip to buy 928 parts for a 928 track car 3 years ago: car was on blocks: stripped chassis. Took 16 people to pick it up off the blocks & place it on a trailer, then back on blocks in the garage to start getting it to where it could roll for paint & such: quite a task!

I see it's an OB with S4 Front Calipers. Did you do that or does your year come with those? If not, did you do S4 Front Suspension Parts or the Caliper Adaptors?

I love the rear quarter windows. What are those NACA ducts feeding, the oil cooler? Is that an engine or diff oil cooler? I'm assuming diff. Post more interior pics please. Especially of the cage.

Mark that looks great, I hope that you car runs well.

I would suggest that you make an S out of the front brake lines try turning the fitting on the caliper upwards if that wont work then consider rerouting the body line so it faces upwards , the way you have it now the lines may tangle with the suspension, also consider wrapping the coiled plastic that comes with the rubber lines over the steel lines so they wont abrade any other metal parts.
Add a flex duct to the alternator so it wont suck up stones

MPDano: '82 car with 86.5 suspension & brakes: bolts right up.

Fabio421: Left side NACA feeds the oil cooler, right side NACA feeds the tire well, which was converted to an air plenum for the turbo's air filter (See picture).

Mrmerlin: The brake lines are not tight yet: I'm preparing to install 14" rotors.

Whoops, I had that backwards: left NACA feeds the air filter, right NACA feeds through the tire well into the carbon fiber oil cooler shroud.

Oh, I didn't realize that this car was turbo charged as well. What class do you plan on running? The turbo will bump you up in class but the cage doesn't look like it has the required side protection. DE only?

GT1R/S because of the boost & size of the engine. For DE it's fine: I'll take a year for my buddy to get acclimated enough via DE's to be able to be certified for PCA racing. At that point we'll go back to finish the cage. Great cage work, but the guy had family issues & couldn't finish it during our required time frame, so it needs to go back.

Where did you get the bumpsteer kit? or did you make it yourself (what I am planning).

Also what is the ride height you are running with?

I had them made: hardened steel. I have an extra set, & plan to sell them too. Should work out great. swaybar is badass: I have a few of those left too: had to make a few sets to make it worth my while.

Picture doesn't do it justice: 25 hours of wet-sanding, 5 hours of cutting, polishing, buffing, & 8 hours of final (around the hard-part) polishing. Almost time to wax.
