Blinkers no worky, solid light on dash???

Out for my std rip through West Chester yesterday morning, my typical Sunday morning 30 mile drive.

Noticed that when I hit my blinkers on, the light just stayed green on the dash, until it clicked off after turn. No blinker when doing this. I checked while out of the car and when the blinker is engaged the blinker light is not actually lit, will not light at all, even if you manually click the blinker up and down, nothing.

Before I investigate, was looking for some possibly obvious from the guru's????

Thx, in advance.

1979 US 928, custom, but the blinkers should be of std factory engineering.

Possibly relay V (1H0.953.227) located on the bottom row on left directly next to big relay.

Does the same thing happen on both sides of the car? Do the turn indicator lights illuminate on the outside of the car, but just not flash?

Yes, both sides are affected the same. No, exterior does not illuminate when stalk is in blinker location, right or left, does not matter. Solid blinker light on dash, does not blink on and off, and again nothing outside of any illumination, etc, even if manually moved up and down.

Thx.

FYI,
This is what ya think I need???

Yes, that's what I think you need.

That is for sure what I would start with anyway.

Do the lights flash when the emergency lights are engaged? If they work, that test would indicate a steering column switch or some other issue.
Hmmmnnn.........

The relays are simple devices that sometimes get a little corrosion between the contacts. Sometimes it is just the external contact pins. If sure it's the relay, you have nothing to loose but a little time by attempting to better the electrical contact. If the external pins seem fine, try removing the cover from the relay, delicately inspecting between the contacts and delicately cleaning them (did I say delicately?) with perhaps a strip of fine emery paper (#400 or finer) folded in half and dragged between the contacts (only once or twice so as not to remove any silver plating!) Finish by spraying with a little electrical contact cleaner and reassemble. Presto! A (perhaps) renewed relay.

Some of our relays are pretty common and may be available at a local auto parts store. I believe that I have obtained at least one at a common retail supply house.

Good advice Allen, thx for the input.

If I were to miss the $16 I just spent on a new one I might try this but I will not, so awaiting the new relay delivery, sure this will do the trick.

if the relay doesn't fix it, look into emergency switch

I see that this thread was not completed or answered and I am having the same issue. My Hazards work fine and blink but my left or right does not. Just a solid light on dash and no lights on the exterior.

Any suggestions?

Ok all, got my OEM Blinker Relay from Pelican Parts and still the same symptoms.

1) Solid Light on Dash with "NO" external lights on

2) Emergency Flashers flash lights on Dash as well as working external lights

3) All Fuses look good

Besides replacing the Signal Stalk, are there any other suggestions?

Leo, Sorry, no, except to agree on the signal stalk - but remove it first, figure out which are the directional contacts, and jumper them out to test / verify.

I can always pull the Stalk from the Euro and give that test, but it's not at my house.

Are the Emergency Blinkers the same bulbs on the rear and front?

Also, are there any specifi ground locations that would affect just Directional Blinkers?

check the CE panel on the back for melted wires at the blinker relay if that checks good then replace the stalk and test it

I put my Euro Stalk on there and Blinkers started working. I buttoned it all back up, tested it and same thing, solid light. Ok, pulled the long plastic cover and pulled a small wire that I plugged back in (piece looks like the odo reset on my Euro but it isn't on this year). Blinkers worked again. Put the plate back, did the test, blinkers work. Hit the Hazards, got blinking on both, turned hazards off, Blinkers back to solid.

I'm saying WTF to myself, so I plugged back in that little wire I disconnected and the Blinkers started working again. Buttoned it up again. Blinkers work.

Ok, now I just said "leave it all alone now!!"

Well Hell, went to go get myself some Micky D's and guess what? Blinkers stopped working again. Got too dark. I'll tackle this tomorrow.

Any suggestions?

Ok, figured this out.

Circuit goes through the Hazard Switch. I could get the Blinkers to work and then if I move the Pod around it would stop. Ok, I knew I had a bad connection somewhere.

I pulled the Hazard Switch and you can see some of the blades weren't connecting very well, so I used a small screwdriver to push them down for a better connection. That was it. All good now.
