Problems in Middle East, again, pls don't invade to sort this.

The good guys at Pelican have been very efficient in sending me parts but so far courier or registered post has almost been more expensive than the parts. I had my car (1978 - Pasha seats- no paper work) approved by the local standards office but when i went to register the car for road driving i was told that it would have to be classed as classic because of the age and would only be given a plate number to drive it between museums or car meets, only.. However, the nice man said that if i wanted to give him a large envelope he'll register it for day to day driving. Ya What!! Does this happen in good 'ol USA??
Anyway, i received from supplier the struts for tha back trunk window, we installed it but the door slams shut, never had a 928 before, is this normal, also the rear dampers i got were too big and when i got to the shop they fitted them by slightly skimming some metal off the shocks, now i'm concerned here about "slightly". Do i have a very early 1978 that does not fit the norm? Also, anothe problem, the good man at the standards office hadn't seem a 928 before so even though he had all teh paperwork, he classified it as a Porsche Cayenne, its on all the paperwork. Try insuring a 1978 Cayenne.... Taking lots of pics and after i've spent a years salary bringing this thing back from the dead i'll upload it with the spreadsheet on the damage so far.

The Motor Vehicle Departments here in the US are State by State, I do know there is no way you can do an envelope and get away with it. Nice Prison time for that. Federalizing back in the day I am sure it happened a lot.

There are two types of shock struts for the Hood and the Rear Hatch. it sounds like you got the ones for the Hood, which is not strong enough to hold up the heavy rear hatch.

to tell if you have hood shocks take the shock and put one end on the ground if you compress the shock with one hand then you have a hood shock if it takes two hands to hold the shock while pressing into the ground then you have a hatch shock.
IIRC the hood shocks are 35 pounders and the hatch is 100 pound.

If the shop was cutting the lower bushings of the shocks to fit then they probably have them turned 180 degrees out,
as they will fit both ways to the lower link pin .

one way is correct and other will be off just a bit, your shop may have trashed the shocks

Sad thing is that even with a revolution, you get rid of the person at the top, but rarely the bureaucrats in the middle.

Take it slow and do some work yourself, much cheaper than educating a mechanic.
