Granted it was not Xmas themed but did have a 928

My rear sunvisor on the driver side broke at the mounting point. I guess 30 year old plastic doesn't hold up well. The problem is that so far super glue/contact cement doesn't seem up to the task and I haven't located that plastic mount yet. Suggestions?

Perfect thing to have ordered from 928intl during the half price used parts sale.

Post some pictures so we are sure of what you need. Maybe someone will have one.

Well can't worry about a sunvisor right now. I have a coolant leak. It's coming from the main line where it meets the top of the block next to the distributor. My mechanic had repaired it once and said that there were no replacement gaskets made for this location on my car. Looking at Pelican Parts, I would so far agree. I haven't found a gasket yet. Any words of wisdom?

Well got the car back to home with the coolant leak. But had a couple of other things go wrong while using the car as a daily driver. The fog lights went out. I found the fuse to that had been been burned and warped. I popped in a new one but still no fog lights. On my way into work I hit the rear wiper switch.

hobbyshark 01-04-2013 07:02 PM

The wiper swept out but never returned. Once I was in the lot. I hit the switch and heard the motor. I can only hope that a bolt or gear came loose. I don't want to part with 500.00 for a new motor.

I'm sure some condensation and cold has something to do with some of the problems. I got the garage cleared out so the 928 is warm and dry. Any threads on checking the wiper motor in the hatch?

Danglerb 01-05-2013 04:35 PM

Hatch wiper is usually mechanical issues, plenty of cheap used motors though if you need one.

hobbyshark 01-06-2013 04:43 PM

Hatch wiper issue taken care of. Just a matter of making sure the actuator met up with the wiper arm. Duh!

hobbyshark 01-06-2013 04:45 PM

Fog lights operating again also. Also managed to pull some aftermarket amp wiring out of the car.

hobbyshark 01-06-2013 04:46 PM

Was checking the door vents and it looks like the duct hose is missing.

If I pull the dash I only want to do it once. I'd want to replace the dash lights with more potent LEDs, recover the dash if at all possible, and get rid of the aftermarket inop alarm and kill switches. That will be further down the road.

LOL, sorry, read that and don't we all, but life rarely is so accommodating.

A man can dream Dangler.

Well back to the coolant leak. I still can see the source of the leak and I was thrilled to see that an avid (4 car) 928 owner on Rennslist had posted a very detailed oil/thermostat removal for a 928 S4, but I have an older 83 928S. I know things had changed.

Danglerb 01-19-2013 11:01 PM

Block basically unchanged, leaks about the same, early cars a LOT easier to clean.

You can push the rubber sleeves on the intake "body" down each leg enough to remove the body. Take off the air filter and air meter, and its fairly wide open to remove and clean the rest.

hobbyshark 01-21-2013 06:15 PM

Well God smiled on me again. I traced the coolant leak to where the heater hose went in to the block next to the thermostat housing. It was a simple matter of repositioning the heater hose and checking it for leaks.

I would like to get the upper part of the engine cleaned up. That will have to wait a couple of weeks.

I'm having problems with excessive wear on the left front coupled with more vague feeling steering. Wear is all on the inner portion of the tire. Excessive toe out? How do I fix ?

Danglerb 02-19-2013 01:05 AM

Replace the worn parts and properly align. Many places insist on lifting the front to check I think ball joints, but the 928 suspension needs 10 miles of driving or a special pull down to settle, so basic alignment is often set wrong.

It needs to go on a rack and get checked over to see what is wrong. I don't know enough to point at anything special from tire wear.
