More 928 fodder
 

Since MPdano said post a thread. I posted a thread.
Picked up the car after my other daily driver got mangled at a green light I was able to get a cheap commuter and then indulge in this folly of a car.
The car seemed to be in decent shape in comparison to other 928 basket cases I was test driving
The car had 69000 but there was an odometer gear replacement in the records. The mechanic that I took it to on the date of purchase said the mileage appeared true. This was the first timing belt change the car had.

Issues with the car:
The altenator mounting points were stripped they had to be tapped and sleeved
The water pump was showing play so I had replaced since the belt was being done
The passenger window switch went out on my first long distance cruise but the PO gave me a switch with the car
Second gear does not like to go in when cold and sometimes hot. Then there is the occasional high pitched squeal out of the back end when I was downshifting.
After the long distance drive, I parked the car for a week while i went on another trip. I came back to find that my brake fluid was emptied out of the resevior and on the garage floor. It looked like the clutch fluid line (blue) was weeping from the point it met the reservior.
I topped off with fluid and went to my mechanic who could not find the leak:confused:

Then there was that first deatil that MPDano had on the common fixes. Some of the wiring going into the 14 pin block was exposed, green, and crusty. I ordered up a wiring harness from 928 Motorsports.
The other issue was either a miss , a MAF issue, or a lousy vacuum line. I told the mechanic if there were any crusty vacuum hoses to replace them.

I know there's other items in the car I haven't touched on, but I still like the car and you just don't see them. Loved the post about the Panamera owner, and that is a nice widebody 928. I remember drooling over a Strosek 928 in Car and Driver back in 1985.

She looks good from 15 feet. A respray is coming as soon as I get a majority of the mechanicals worked out.

Yes, nice color. It looks good, maybe it only needs a buffing out with only 69K miles on it. Sounds like you are just dealing with the most common items that go out. Those window switches are a pain. There is a solid state replacement for all those and maybe cheaper in the long run. It was posted on here.

More pics, digital pics are free. I agree, that color looks awesome. I like the interior combo as well.

I saw the switch gear and looks like a nice setup. As far as buffing out the paint. It looks like the car was already resprayed once and very well. The bumpers have both been pushed in slightly.

As a result the paint on the front bumper is cracked and I need to fix or replace the bumper shocks

I should have said the car was not resprayed very well. I'm under the influence of children.

Where are you located? Who is the 928 mechanic that is working on your car? Why did you have to tell him to replace the crusty vacuum lines?

Just here to help if I can.

Local guy who was working on the car before with the previous owner in nor cal. He said he would check the lines when installing the wiring harness and the new fuel injection lines. He seems to do good work on the car. The maintenance on the car he's done so far has been good and he doesn't do unnecessary work to the car.

He's also been kind enough to house the car when the harness was getting made by 928 Motorsports. That took a month to get done alone. I'm just getting comfortable with the idea of wrenching under the hood. Wrenching on the car has been limited to checking the common problems listed in the forum.

God willing I should get the car back sometime in the next week.
