This is what happens when a tiny piece of metal gets stuck into one of your cylinders

...not for the feint of heart, gents. It ain't pretty. This is what happens when a tiny washer finds its way into your #3 cylinder after removing/replacing the fuel injectors. A very expensive error resulting in a replacement engine, and a valuable lesson learned not to be repeated. Worthy of tears, for sure.

After removing the heads to inspect the damage...

Nasty results, not that uncommon of a mistake. Head doesn't look "that" bad, so maybe just a shortblock and you are good to go.

A number of years ago I bought an engine having exactly the same failure. Some red neck mechanic had dropped a nut into one of the cylinders when the car was at service. The block is now machined out for sleeving to 108mm bore. It will be a 7L stroker in time.

Apologies for not responding earlier fellas... BZ week!

This was the motor that I ruined (the original). It was easier to lift the motor out of the garage with the heads off, and I wanted to see the damage anyway. The replacement is already in the car, almost everything is hooked up, and nearly ready to start. If the replacement motor had that damage, I would feel the necessity to drive it off of a cliff, with the remaining seven working cylinders. LOL! This project has been a PITA, with too much time and $$$ spent.

Even harder to stomach. I inspected all the remaining cylinders and they were absolutely brilliant, with no scouring or wear whatsoever. It was a very strong and well cared for motor before the damage (caused by removing and replacing the injectors). Now it will become a table - a VERY expensive table at that, but hey, good art isn't cheap....
