PURE FUN. o2 sensor replacement
i dont remember being this hard last time i cannot for the life of me get the old 02 sensor off the car.... ive tried longer wrenches and have used more wd-40 then micky d's has sold happy meals and it still wont move. im on ramps so maybe its a leverage issue, but i did this in 2002 without a problem. i posted not to long ago and sure enough the 02 was the culprit. anyone have any secrets on things that dont want to unscrew when told to by a 1 foot long crecent wrench and a box end and an open end wrench?
thanks guys Jeff |

I bought a 15/16" open ended wrench from Sears and spent a long time trying to angle the thing so that I could get a couple degrees of turn out of it. It took a little bit of patience, but I got it out. I know that's not too much "secret" advice, but that was my personal experience with it.

i appreciate your response. it feels like your trying to over tighten it, it literally will not move. theres not alot of room to work down there but i figured it would be an easy job saying ive done it before and didnt really have a problem. needless to say ive now run out of day light (east coast) and lost the battle for the night, but theres always tomorrow . thank you again for your response.

I had the same problem. A mallet hammer and a long wrench fixed it very quickly.

First trick: Hot exhaust
Second trick: O2 sensor socket and a long breaker bar If a combination of those two tricks won't get it to move then you're in trouble ![]()

Success! i went out and got the 15/16 wrench that was mentioned earlier in the post, and amazingly it was to big. i went back to pep boys carrying my new o2 sensor and crescent wrech that fit the older one and found a 7/8 wrench that fit everyone perfectly. came home and 2 minutes later the one o2 sensor was off the car and i was smiling big reachin' for a heiniken to celebrate. thank you all for your help
i did notice the idle is smoother and it seems to be right under 1000 rpm at idle verse the 850 it would idle at before the sensor was replaced. im assuming the idle increase is due to the fact that the 02 sensor is now working? car runs lean by design with the stage 2 chips, yet my idle increases and is smoother. maybe the computer finally got the mixture right? Sorry for the novel... any ideas on the increase in idle? thanks again for the inpuit Jeff |
