Odomiter Problem

Have an 86 951 with 94,000 miles on it. Took it for a quick spin a few days ago, everything was working fine. Few days after that spin I came out to find my car with 534,000 miles on it. I was completly shocked, so I investigated. Took the whole cluster out and examined the gears, and they are all perfectly fine and intact, so I just reset the milage to its orginal 94k; then I took it out for a drive to make sure everything was working fine. The very next day the mileage had jumped to again to 650,000. Anyone have any ideas what could possible be wrong??

Thanks!!

so, you drive the car x miles. the odometer clocks the mileage correctly. then you come out to the car the next day and there are 500,000 more miles on the odometer? seriously?

if that is the case, i'd call the clergy of your choice and have it exorcised...

I had that happen to my car at about 56k it went to 256k seems like the high digit got stuck to the one next to it and flipped with it. at the next 1 k it flipped to normal...
