k&n x-stream intake filter

finally found a nice filter that doesn't have a blocked top.

RX-2820 K&N Universal X-Stream Clamp-on, around $60

Been using this same filter for 3 years now, the part number I have is one half of the 2 that a viper requires.

I am glad to see your car is running great (from your posts).

Just another thought. To get more fresh air to that filter. Get some small diameter
dryer hosing and route it through the hole in the side wall right beside your filter. Then flex it down to where it comes out in front of the front tire. You can always even add a 90 elbow and secure in place. Cool clean air forced into your filter.

1) to keep excessive dust off the filter
2) to keep water off the filter
3) to extend the service interval when you have to clean+oil the filter

i mainly got it to protect the filter from water, as it rains a lot in seattle.

details here;
http://www.knfilters.com/wraps.htm

PreCharger Filter Wraps

What is a K&N PreCharger?
The K&N PreCharger is a specially designed filter wrap made to extend the service interval of your K&N Filtercharger when used in very dusty conditions. They are made from durable polyester material containing a uniform weave. The PreCharger will stop small dirt particles with minimal restriction to the airflow of the filter. The PreCharger is designed to be run dry and can be cleaned with K&N Filter Cleaner. The PreCharger is custom made to fit each application. Double stitched elastic openings assure that the PreCharger will stay in place. The PreChargers are available in a variety of colors, all with a silk-screened K&N PreCharger logo.

It's nice, but the issue that I was thinking I would have with it is the same issue I see in the picture. That is that the end of it it so tight against the fender that it will not be able to draw much though the end anyways, unless you were to cut a hole into the fender at that location. There just isn't much extra space under the hood of these vehicles. The space created by the elimination of the stock air box is basically useless.

there already is a hole there, where the factory stock snorkle goes. air can easily be drawn through the top of the filter via this existing hole.

What I'm saying is that the existing hole is too low to line up with the END of the filter, which is basically flat up against sheet metal. Things would be so much nicer if those damn headlights didn't need so much space to operate.

there is no airbox, it is feeding directly to the inlet of the turbo. to do this, you have to go to MAP. full details and more here;
stock airbox + snorkle vs. free intake
