I went to buy a digital knock counter off of skycraftparts, the site everyone links to in the knock counter posts, and they had removed it from the website!! I contacted them, and they say they have a few scattered in stores, but someone has already claimed them all, up to 60 counters, on whatever they can find in the stores! Perhaps someone on rennlist?
Anywhere else we can find this counter? Or is there perhaps a suitable replacement? |

I have used a SciVision KnockView for several years, it's a quite effective device that connects on pin #21 of the KLR.
Search for dmeshop24 KnockView on Google.

Aah! 125 dollars for an LED light?! I'd rather be able to make a counter for 20 bucks......

It's not just a LED, there is a chip in the box and the LED has different levels intensity and brightness depending on knock activity.
Though I must say that when they came out they were cheaper than that...

Thanks to the help of John from the reutterwerk forum digging around, digital counters with reset are available here:
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?site=us;lang=en;Keywords=curtis+counters &gclid=CMKd0NvhsqcCFUx95Qod-xgd_w According to him, "Any of the 5-12 VDC offerings should work fine, the 12-48 VDC powered ones MAY not power on if your voltage from the alternator or battery drops, but the 5-12 VDC should be fine!" |

The one that I am currently using is the RLC (Red Lion Controls) model CUB3 (the 3R uses a remote reset button). Since it is self-powered, it is designed to count mechanical switch contact openings/closures. But if the knock output signal is presented to it via an open-collector transistor output, it does work fine (and retains it's count non-volitilely until the RESET button is pushed). If anyone doesn't know what that means, or how to hook it up, I'd be glad to help out. The PDF is located here: http://www.redlion.net/Products/Groups/Archive/CUB3/3R/Docs/01008.pdf I'm not sure who vends RLC's products, as I am no longer with the company that was buying them. But I do recall the they were purchased in boxes of 10 units, and no idea how much they cost.
