Installing engine heat shield after turbo is in?
Almost done with my Vitesse Stage 3 install.
So I have all the brackets sorted out but now I'm thinking I'm screwed because I mounted the turbo before putting the engine heat shield that holds the rear intake manifold support in place. Is there any way to get this heat shield in between the turbo and the block once the turbo in bolted in and connected? I am dreading the thought of taking everything out just because of this damn shield. It looks like the shield itselg may slip in there, but the intake bracket connected to it may not work (and no way to connect that bracket once the shield is down there). I'm thinking maybe if that bracket were welded to the shield so there are no bolt heads and nuts sticking out and the raised edged are ground down? Anybody been successful getting this shield in after the turbo was installed?

a friend did the same thing, you'll have to pull the turbo.
i'll bet you'll never forget the correct order again.

Turbo is out and heat shield is in. And yes, I WILL NOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE AGAIN!!!

I took the lazy man's route, and cut a piece of it off, in order to make it go.

I too took the lazy route and sectioned the shield into two pieces. I sectioned almost vertically and bolted in the front half. And had a bracket welded to the intake support to support the rear section. It worked well with the exception of where the bolts were positioned. I tapped the thick part of the shield not knowing exactly where would be since shield was out. Turned out they were hard to access without a second set of hands since down pipe was in way. This allowed the whole shield to be in place.
Still not easy but easier for someone less mechanical. Hope helps someone in future. |
