Can I run a 944 Turbo transaxle without the cooler loop?

I have an opportunity to buy a Turbo transaxle that originally had the oil cooler loop. Is there some type of block off plate that I could use if I didn't want to use the cooler? Would it be ok to run it this way? I am asking because the seller has no cooler to go with the trans.

No, that transaxle has an internal oil pump. You can add another oil cooler radiator and lines for cooling. Recommend Mocal oil coolers core with 22,000gw and the proper an 12 lines and fittings. Heat is a big issue above 200hp with our cars...
Later.

Thanks for the info. I suspected that this was the case, but I wanted to be sure.

OK .... I am starting on a clutch replacement on my '86 951.

plan to drop the transaxle/torque tube.

was wanting to investigate tranny cooler options while it is out.

suggestions? and I mean sources, kits, etc. I am OK with putting together stuff, but would like to feel it will be successful.

in full disclosure, I have not done a search yet.

thanks, looking forward to ideas.

BAT(Britiash American Transfer) inc can probably help you out. They sell Setrab and Mocal coolers. One guy really knows his stuff. The woman's kinda *****y and the other guys an idiot but the one guy knows everything and will have no problem with this. (I'm trying to locate his name in my paperwork but haven found it yet)

Here's a source that I use:

transmissioncoolers.us: Tru-cool thin coolers

I have installed several Tru-Cool automatic transmission oil coolers on different vehicles and had good results with each one.

You will have to see if any will work in your application.
