Anywhere from the upper 20's through the low 30s, depending on location, mileage, etc.

Options? Location? Depending on what it needs (from the PPI), up to the low 30s. Little things cost a lot on 993s.

assuming it's very clean needs nothing. i've been searching the country mainly autotrader and the asking prices are way high usually in the low 40s.

You shouldn't be paying more than mid-$30's for a '95. A heavily optioned Carrera 4 will bring a tad more.
"S" cars are a different matter entirely! |

I've been looking for a while and prices do vary. I just acquired a truly pristine, one owner '95 from a Porsche dealer who took it in on a trade for $29.9. 50k miles on it. I consider it a very fair price given the great condition it is in. Not a single oil weep or drip anywhere on the engine which pretty much convinced me to go for it along with a spirited test drive.
So my point is.....condition, condition, condition. That is what will pay dividends in the future or quickly drive you nuts if faults start showing up. Wait for a clean one. Figure 30k will get you what you want.
