Help my new 964 has engine trouble, I am sick!
I just pick up my new 1994 911 C2, this past thursday night.
My wife and I had to go to the coast this weekend for a baby shower. So I decided to take my new car. The trip was nice my wife really liked the seats, better even then her 2006 Audi. Any way the trip is about 360 miles from Atlanta to the Gulf Coast. About the last third of the trip(200 miles) I thought I hear a ticking from the back rear of the engine. It seem to sound like a valve tick. When we got off the interstate the noise was louder, and really like a valve noise, with a erectic slap or rap every once in a while. The car never got hot, and the oil pressure was always good. The engine has 97k. The avg speed of the trip was about 88 miles a hour. So I changed the oil and put a new oil filter in just in chase it was bad oil . No luck, there is still a loud valve noise with the a slap ever once in a while. Please let me know what ya'll think, I have to drive back to Atlanta monday morning. I talked to the guy that sold it to me, (big Porsche Guy), he said that he thought I could drive it back to Atlanta safely. i am just sick right now, Can it just be the valves out of adjustment? Can I drive back , there are no real Porsche shops on the Gulf coast?

The ticking doesn't sound too bad but the occassional slap is scary.I wouldn't know without taking the valve covers off and doing a check of the gaps (valve adjustment). Did you make sure the distributor belt is not broken and that the secondary distributor is turning? Does the engine idle smoothly or is it rough running? I would find out the cause of the problem before driving it further as the distributor belt is a major problem leading to massive engine damage if the spark plugs are fireing in one cylinder at the wrong position.

Are you in the Panama City area? There is a Porsche shop over there. Call David at 850-769-9500. They may be closed on a Sunday though.
Here is their website. http://www.smithmotorworks.com/ It could be the timing chain, the tensioner or the chain guides. If it's a valve and rocker issue, it will be consistent.

Well I decided to get a rental car and drive back to Atlanta, leaving the car here on the Gulf Coast.
I will pick rent a trailer there and come back and pick it up with my truck. The good news is I talked to the Guy I bought the car from, he said that he would take care of me and put the car in the shop, to find what is wrong. I think was really nice of him. Thanks for the help I will keep ya'll posted.

Update:
I trailered the car from the Gulf Coast to Atlanta. Droped it off and the P.O. was very sorry for the troubles, and said he whated to pay for trailer rental as well. He went on to say he would make it right @ no cost ot me. WOW. He dropped it off next store @ the Porsche shop, and said he would let me know what they find. Well I talked to him today, and it is not good. It looks like the right side of the engine (heads and cams) lost oil pressure. .....Well you know what that will do. So now they have to go in and find the cause and fix the damage to the top of the engine on that side. I am thinking some of the rockers and the cam. SO I think he is going to pull the engine now so he can see what is involed. I will keep ya'll posted The P.O. said that he would make sure it was right, and he told the shop to make sure the repair is done right too. Thanks for the help so far.

If the PO lives up to his promises, I will buy him a bottle of whatever he drinks.
He could restore faith.
