993 performance enhancing chips?

Anyone know about the 993 performance enhancing computer chips?

1) Drawbacks?

2) Is it worth it?

3) Which one if any?

Thanx

Your '96 does not work with upgrade chips, you'll need a 97+ DME with the socketed chip.

Talk to Steve Wong. (911chips.com) He reprogrammed the '95 DME for my 95 993 DME engine.

It made a noticeable difference for me. I also have non-stock, more aggressive cam shafts, which necessitated modificaiton to fuel / spark curves.

As Don said, a '96 can not be reprogrammed. You need to switch to a '97 or '98 ECU and then have it re-flashed. It's a couple grand for a few hp. I don't think it's worth it, but it's always the owners choice.

Why is it a couple grand? Cause the ecu is spendy or cause the reflash is spendy?

The ECU is expensive. The flash "cheap" in comparison. You are likely to get 8-10 hp from it. Not something you will notice on the street with an otherwise stock car.

Oh I see.
But how do I knowhat 97 ecu I need??
Or are they all the same for a 6 speed manual??
Because I can get a ECU fairly cheap/Free so it wont cost me $2,500 so thats what I wanted to clarify.

All US cars '97 or '98 w/ drive block use either 993.618.604.10 or .11, basiceely yes all the US 6 spd manuals use the same DMEs

RoW and non-driveblock cars use different parts
