1992 C2 questions
Hello, I am looking at a 1992 C2 with ~50K miles, all books and records, no oil leak issues, outside of a chip and sport exhaust it's bone stock and in mint condition. The guy is asking $27K which seems a bit high, doing a PPI next week and if no major issues will make an offer. Wanted to ask you guys what issues/concerns I should consider if I go forward with this? I have owned a couple 911SC's and currently have a 930, looking for a bit newer car for a daily driver and about half dozen track days in a year. Thoughts? Thanks in advance. Bryce

My thoughts on the price is way too high...964 seems to the most undervalued car for the prices they are at....I have seen them around $15k to 24K...the higher ups seem to be RS and turbo models....

My advice would be to make an offer and then do the PPI. No point in spending $200 and then having your offer shut down by the seller. If you get to the PPI part, definitely perform a compression and leak down test on the engine. $27K is a bit high for a 964, but if it's in a PRISTINE condition that price might actually be OK.

Seems about right if checks out fine with that mileage and no serious accident. I would question why chipped if so stock. Good luck.

I will play the devils advocate here. I have a 93 C2 with similar miles and have been looking for one for a friend for several months. I have seen numerous 964's in the $15k to $22k price range. All of them had over 100k miles and needed work. Most of them were earlier 90-91 MY cars. When moving to the 92-93-94 MY cars with low mileage they all end up being in the $27k and up price range. It also depends what kind of service records, history and options are part of the car.
If the car is in a good color combo, has the low mileage you state with all records and wearable items up to date, $27k is more than a reasonable price. It is not worth haggling over 1-2 grand if the car is solid without issues. You could settle on another car with more mileage and end up dropping much more into it. My C2 is a 93 just turned 50k I use it on the track mostly. Yet it has Fikse wheels, GT3 seats, big reds, G pipe, light weight flywheel, eibach bilstein suspension TRG sways, new stereo and an entire host of other goodies all done in the past 5k miles mostly by PO's and I would not let it go for less than $33k and I have a list of people willing to buy it from me. It also has 1% leak down and 175 compression across all cylinders and recently passed local smog tests with 0 HC and 4ppm CO. For the money it is a fantastic car and worth every penny. SO don't focus on price as much as value and you will have a winner of a car. Good Luck.

I agree with Cobalt, I don't think a grand or two is worth loosing a decent car. My search ended in July with the purchase of a 1993 C2 for $26.5, the PO was asking $28k. My original price cap was $25k, so broke the bank by $1500, well worth it.
The car is red/grey, 5spd, with sport seats and LSD. It's a very clean car everything works with no issues, 100% stock, Brumos repair/maintenance history, A/C blows cold, new clutch, new brakes, original paint, original engine and decent balanced compression with 65k miles. I looked at every 964 I could find, nationwide, but most lowere priced cars weren't worth the asking price or the mileage was near or above 100k miles. The lower priced cars often needed $2500-3000 in fixes/repairs, all considered not great deals. A PPI should help justify the condition and the value. I think it's great that nice 964's are fetching decent $$ these days. Keep us informed.

You should not be conserned with the mileage as much as the condition and history of the car. I am offering my 92 for 20K and it is near perfect in every way. NADA book is 21500. A good car with a good history is worth at least 24K because you can dump 2-4K into a car very fast if it has even minor problems. Jim
