964 RS steering rack in a 993. Good mod or not?

I have a 964RS steering rack that I bough for a 964 project car... long story short, I have a 993 project car and I want NON power steering set up.

DOES IT FIT? Anybody done this mod? Is it worth it? Do the stock 964RS tie rods work?

If I did this I would pull the power steering pump, bracket and lines and just store them for later if I decide to go back to a power set up.

Do 993 RS/RSR come with a power rack?

Would like some feedback on this.

Thank you

That answers most of your question

Yes. It fits, tie rod need would depend on the uprights used

If I did this I would pull the power steering pump, bracket and lines and just store them for later if I decide to go back to a power set up.

RS w/, RSR w/o

JMO, but I like p/s

Once again Bill, thank you.

Do the stock 964RS tie rods work with the stock 993 up rights? I am no to familiar with the layout and have yet to tear into a front end of a 964/993.

When we added the 993 EVO uprights to my car, I believe the tie rods were changed. My car is really low and we were making the changes to eliminate the bump steer.

I have maintained my power steering, despite the fact it is more weight as the consensus opinion (me, and the folk that maintain my car) is that it isn't worth it to change. While some feel the "feel" imparted by a manual rack is better, I run with 11" slicks up front and I'm not planning on steroids to maintain the upper body strength required with the switch to a manual rack.

On 964 w/ 993 uprights you use 993 tie rods, so I assume that is what you would use as well.

Isn't the rack a different size in the 964 from the 993? (Isn't the RS rack a different size than the 993 rack too?). The 993 rack has the extra brace that could be added for more support when running 18" wheels. I was told the brace doesn't fit a 964 (hence my belief that the rack is a different size). And if the rack is a different size, I thought that different tie rods would be required. I believe that custom tie rods were fabricated for my car due to the mixing of the parts from the two models.

No there are a # of 993s running around w/ the manual 964 rack.

there were 2 different design p/s racks used on 964. One is compatible w/ the 993 brace the other is not. The 964 manual is brace compatible as well.

Thanks Herman. They seem rather rare. I'm looking at making a stock F class 964 C2 PCA race car into a G class car by running it as a RS America.

Strokher -- Not sure about the wt savings/hp, however based on feedback I got on my 993 race car build NO-one recommended manual rack.

Most of the Porsche guys want large tires in front so I can understand that. I am the odd ball though bc I dont do the curves. I prefer straight line
