Dashboard (Fan) squeek question...

I turn up the fan knob (left of Temp Control knob) and hear increasingly louder squeeking. Higher i turn fan speed, louder the sqeek/hum/creaking sound. Is this time for Heater Blower Motor replacement ? If not, what's doos i need to do ? This is on our 964 ('90 Carerra 2).

Thanks a bunch...
LaurenLynn

Is the sound coming from the front trunk? If so, sounds like one of the front blower fans is about gone. I had the problem with the squeaking noise. I replaced the left front blower with a used fan. Solved my problem.

There are 4 fans that are part of the ventillation system. In the engine compartment, there is a heater blower on the left side. This does not sound like your issue.

On the Climate Control Unit (CCU), there is a very small fan in the back of the unit that cycles air to verify the temp. You would hear the squeak low by the CCU.

There are 2 fans (one either side) just in front of the dash. These are located near the fire wall in the front trunk. These fans do have a tendancy to wear out. I had the left side fan wear out and it squeaked louder depending on the setting on the fan. Eventually it stopped working unless on setting 4. Those fans are not cheap, so I got one from a dismantler. I installed it myself which is a little tricky. Just did not have the money to spend to have someone else do it.

Good luck.

Fan Squeek/Squeel

Any further discourse on this topic well appreciated.

HamptonSam thanks so much for that already shared in this thread.
