993 engine bits compatible with 964?
A few questions about what 993 engine parts will fit in a 964 motor
1. Will 993 Cams work in a 964 motor? I know the 993 uses hyd. lifters, but could those be used in the 964 cam housing? Is the lift or duration wrong? 2. Will 993 rods work in a 964 motor?

2) no, the 993 rods are narrower, 964 uses wider 930 rods

I have 993 heads, intake and exhaust on a 964 bottom end. I use the 964 cam bridges due to use of back dated (solid lifter cams and not hydraulic).

That's true, the older 911/964 style was used into the '95 gen1 993s

I like working with the 993 cam towers more than the 964 ones- I like the fact that the rockershafts have two allens instead of the old style pinch bolt. I also like timing the 993 (stock) better for obvious reasons. Its just easier to work with and takes the brain work out of it.

I've used the factory tools to time several 993's and always had a funny feeling about it, most times, the proper "shank" bolts wouldn't fit w/ fixture in place, in which case the book said to substitute a standard 6mm bolt??!! It still seemed to have tolerance.
That should be the first thing a 993 guy does in search of more power-check cam timing! If I recall, some of the 993 turbos left the factory w/ incorrect timing?
