Ignition/Remote Locking Key

Purchased a '96 C4. Once in the car, I have to push the remote key lock button several times before I turn the key and get ignition--doesn't seem to be any pattern to it--I get dash lights when I turn the key but it never turns over first time-- annoying. After taking the key out and pushing the key lock remote button several times I put it back in the ignition and it starts--in fact never fails to start. What am I missing? Any suggestions? Is this a programing issue? Fix?

Replace the battery (A23) and then try it. You have 30 seconds IIRC after unlocking the car to turn the key and fire her up. Longer, then you will need to push the button on the remote again. The indicator light is about 4 o'clock position on the clock.

the car must be unlocked with the remote in order to start; therefor if you store the car unlocked, you'll need to either lock/unlock car right before you start it or turn the key part way and then push the button and then start. Also, if you live in a safe neighborhood, you can leave the key in the ignition and the immobilizer will be bypassed. Make sure you keep a spare battery for the remote, because the car will not start if it dies.

My 96 has the door lock/unlock & alarm disabled. Appearantly the first owner had issues with the alarm always going off so he/she had the dealer bypass it. I still have to use the remote to activate the immobilizer though. Going to be a real pain if I need to program a new remote.
