Steve Wong vs Cyntech vs ?? In varioram

Hey,

My 97 euro varioram has one of the older cyntech chips. I was thinking about updating. Mine has a lw flywheel, cone filter and m&m muffler.

Anyone have any real world comparison experience? Any dyno comparisons? General thoughts?

My first chip in my vram was a Cyntex, the next 2 were Wong.

Wong is better, if in doubt get the custom chip option, you will need to dyno the car to get the f/a ratios correlated to rpm, then have Steve make a follow up chip based on that data

everything, the Cyntex had a very high idle, it fell apart at the top end and had too high a rev limit, it was just generally unsatisfactory

Just got finished installing the Wong Chip. Got the 91 octane chip for LW flywheel.

Right off the bat.....

1. Idle is now around 850. About 200+ less than the Cyntech.
2. The ENTRIRE powerband is improved. Basically, it rockets up the tach where the old Cyntech was, frankly, a bit of a mess.
3. No backfire! This car has backfired every time I have turned it off (really more of a pop) up until now. I wonder what the deal was here.

The next day I have driven it several more times. It wasn't a terribly hot day by GA standards (mostly high 80s). The car runs noticibly more smoothly. The backfire is absolutely gone. The delivery is much smoother. I have no way to determine if the performance is actually higher or just smoother. The reason I switched it out was to improve drivability and it has absolutely done that.

The only thing it didn't change is a slight gurgle and barely audible pop during high RPM gear changes. The pop I could do without but the gurgle I like. I suspect the cat delete may have something to do with those sounds (or at least that is what the fellows at the Porsche club thought).

One small note of interest. The idle is lower than the cyntech, but not quite as stable. The Cyntech shot up tp 1100 and this chip is in the 800s most of the time. Sometimes it will putter up to 1000 and then go back down.
All in all $425 WELL SPENT. It has made the car much more enjoyable.

Anybody want to by my old Cyntech chip? LOL

That's comforting to hear as i just received my tuneable chip from Steve for my 95 3.6 engine swap into my 89 Carrera. He also bumped up the rev limit to 6800 rpms ...

One of my concerns was with the lightweight flywheel and pressure plate package but it seems the stalling issue has been addressed with his chip ?

Cheers

I never had the stall issue even with the Cyntech chip. But I ordered this chip using the LW flywheel option. One day I may go with the tuneable chip. For now I have two goals. 1. Cut about 250 lbs out of the car by switching the seats, wheels, battery, bumpers, ac parts, etc and 2. Find a quieter exhaust.
