Need code reader for 2000 996
Sooner or later I knew it had to happen. My check engine light is now on. Where can I buy the best OBDII reader for this car? And where does it connect to the wiring harness?
Thanks. ![]()

I'm waiting for my Durametric right now. I hope I can let you know what it's like in the next few days, but by all accounts it is much better than an average OBDII code reader as it is Porsche specific and gives you a lot more detailed information. If anyone has any personal experience to back tis up please elaborate...
Look here: http://www.durametric.com/

You can go to any Autozone and borrow a code reader from them. I think you need to leave a deposit...that's it, but it's free. The outlet I think is under the dash below where the key goes.
You can then determine what the code means by looking it up at www.renntech.org you'll need to become a member, but it's fast and free too. If you want your own code reader, you can get that orange one from hong kong for like 60 bucks delivered. I just got one from there, so if I need it, it's there. Good luck! J
