First Race: New Chase cam

A couple of uneventful laps at BHF. The cars in front are GT-1 class. I managed 1st in class.

THe first race weekend never goes off without a hitch though. Got the new motorhome well and truly stuck in the mud... ...and halfway through this race pulled the shift knob clean off so I couldn't actually get the car into 2nd gear.

Nice!

Chris,

There are days when we would give ANYTHING for a succession of UNEVENTFUL laps. How do you keep the buggy from rolling? I also could detect very little pitch! Maybe that's the secret - never use second gear?

We enjoy your precision. Thanks for posting.

Thanks Ed... Nothing exotic in the suspension. Standard upgrades to coilovers 450/600#, camber boxes and plates, Tarrett Sways, ERP, monoballs, etc... I think since the car is relatively light the springs do a fair job of keeping the car level.

Hey Chris -- turn that thing around next time and do the wool tuft holes in the rear window test.

That car sounds great and goes well. Can you post an outside photo?

Love the car! Thanks for posting the video. Does the chase cam allow for a wider angel view?

I believe they make a wide angle lens for it. THe camera was mounted directly behind the windshield in this shot (right on the a-pillar bar), so I suspect that it's wider than it looks in the video.

Here's a higher res-version. About a 30MB download. http://www.gruppeb.org/TrackVideos/BHF_4-20-08_Raceshort_0002.wmv

Agree the chasecam is a great setup. Here are about 20 stages from Targa Tasmania this year with a new chasecam stuck on the rear window. The uncompressed videos have great quality.

Hi Chris. Nice vid - thanks for sharing. I have a question about your camera mount. I am not sure what a chase cam is exactly, but I have to assume that it is a bullet cam, correct? I bought a Sony HHD bullet cam recently with an Aiptek MPVR for recording to use at Autobahn and for the Midwest R Gruppe caravan to Treffen this fall. I am kind of struggling with how to mount this puppy. I don't want to drill any holes and don't want to use glue either. Any ideas of what is out there for mounting options? Also, what are you using for the data capturing in the car? Thanks.

The chasecam is a bullet camera with a solid state recorder. Essentially similar in concept to what you have but built to be expandable. www.chasecam.com

THe back of my camera has a threaded hole for a standard camera mount. Chasecam sells a tollbar mount with it. I really like this because with the light camera there is very little vibration and no need for image stabilization.
