mbaran, I've been following your build. Great work! I've been getting a lot of help from a friend/mechanic. He put the engine in today. We have to drop it again tomorrow. Those 90 fittings are about 1/16 away from hitting metal. Just worried that there could be some movement with the torque or a big bump. Just to be safe we are going to shave 2 threads off of 2 of the 90's. Lin, which car are you putting it in? The 78 930? I have yet to cut anything out of my car. I've removed a lot of things but no holes and no cuts. Haven't heard back from Shanghi Todd regarding his cooling. I'm hoping mine will work also. I have an extra turbo lid to place the radiator in/on. We shall see... The experts at Ron Davis Radiators say it should work without a problem. They recommended about 416 sq inches of radiator. We shall see. I'm going to start wiring this week. After that I will work on the cooling.

Do they bottom out, or are they tapered? If they're tapered, even if you cut threads, they still wont install deeper. NPT fittings are usually tapered to seal.

Both the fitting and the block are tapered. We ran this by Steve at Renegade and although it seems like it will still stick out the same my understanding (after discusing this) is that it should thread in a bit more? Now I'm confused... The alternative was to hammer in the back wall a tiny bit. Didn't want to do that.

yes, it will be the 930...after deliberating over this for the past few weeks. plans are for a modified LS7 from Mast motorsports with their engine controller, modified fuel delivery system using the dead headed Z06 fuel filter regulator.and planning on using Livorsi gauges with info from the ecu so that i do not need to add seperate sensors for the porsche gauges. they have a matching GPS speedometer. the 930 is already lightened from previous efforts although i recently did install an original interior and sport seats. i even bought a proper radio for the car. i will have the intake reversed..a composite fast 90 mm .... i will extend the air cleaner into the rear seat area properly enclosed and fed air through naca ducts in the quarter windows. i already have a very nice ducktail with metal base and will most likely run this on the car. i expect this combination to give me an exciting street ride with good power and looks. the LS engine should be at least 75 pounds lighter than the turbo engine, so i would expect balance to be just a bit better. oh, i am thinking that i will have the water outlets redrilled and weld in aluminum elbows to avoid that really tight spot at the rear of the engine compartment. i will use the radiator up front and i will cut and reweld my gas tank.

cutting a couple of threads off the fitting worked like a charm. The alum. housing is tapered also. The gap is about a 1/4". No worries now.

Awesome. I can't wait to get moving on my project again, just a little more time required on mine since I didn't go with the RH kit.

I'm not sure what you're talking about "want to go fast and win", it seems Porsche has done that pretty well, won more races than chevy except in quarter miles. To each his own, but to want to install a chevy engine in a Porsche for the sake of "going faster AND win", then you probably did not do your homework well.

Well, the clearence is much better as you can see. The water adapter plate/fittings/90's fit much better. Just had to cut 2 threads off of the plastic 90. It was tapered and so was the alum block so it work perfectely. The motor is in. Nothing has been cut so far and I really don't expect to. As long as the radiator fits in the turbo lid or on the turbo lid this will be a completely uncut vehicle. Its a swap and completely reversible but don't count on that ever happening.

Tomorrow I will start with the electric harness and computer and then ship the car off to the muffler guy to put on/bend a stainless exhaust and mufflers. When that is all done I will start the radiator/cooling in the rear. I will eventually be looking for a turbo wing or dP935 wing in case anyone has one on the east coast...

The engine is all in! John did a great job at his shop! Thanks! Holding off on the wiring today. The car is headed to a mechanic to do the stainless exhaust. Anyone have any pointers on the rear mounted radiator? The air intake will be in the rear quarter/fender so no hot air will hit it.

The turbo lid is on. Now I have to find a turbo wing. Anyone have one on the east coast or a dp935 wing or something with a large area inside for a radiator in the rear...

Need help

Will this wing work on my 89. Guy says its from a 87 widebody. Seems like the right dimension. The hing area looks right but the latch area looks like it goes in. I need a flat area to bolt my latch on, correct? Is this missing an adapter? Take a look and let me know... Thanks!

Here is a another view of the wing. I'm on my 4th radiator mock up and I think I'm ready to order it. I will wait for the wing just to make sure it fits but my mock ups are shown in foam. The radiator with probably be 29" by 14" with 2 fans. The radiator will be 4" total with shroud (1" space between radiator and shroud) The fans will cause a tapered depth from the shroud and edge of the radiator starting at about 1" and going to a 4 1/2 inch diameter motor in the center of each fan rising 2 1/2" to a final depth at the fan motors of 6 1/2". As long as it fits it will work!
