first purchase for another LS conversion
this is the first purchase for my latest conversion...LS7 deadheaded fuel rail filter and pressure regulator...cost 50 bucks at O'Reillys! before the naysayers jump in..please dont...let me say that i am 70 years old..and do not wear gold chains and unbuttoned shirts...but i do like the potential of the LS7 conversion....and i am not saving my 78 930 for anyone but me or my heir to be! the conversion will use Renegade Hybrids basic kit, Mast Motorsports LS 427 Black Label 675 HP SS drive by wire engine, Livorsi Gauges tied to the Mast ECU and including GPS speedo... the gauges will be black face and bezels with red pointers and white digits... i will install this in my already much modified and lightened 78 930. i am not into driving events but i do like hotrods! i dont know that i can add much to the info and pictures that are already available on the other LS conversions on this forum...but will be using the same as a template for the conversion..http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1288451403.jpg

Iam with you man, now if the Gt2rsr guys had that v8 power ....

radiator is here and the gas tank cut down, welded but not finished. braided stainless steel gas lines installed along with walbro 255 lph fuel pump. gas tank will hold approximately 18 gallons by my calculations.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1291742279.jpg

hargett shifter
930 4 speed shifter and linkage arrived has arrived. i have one of the first shifters in my other conversion. this latest version appears to be much improved. i really like the shifter position...much closer and higher!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1291814429.jpg

this is the car...1978 930... that will be converted. i have owned this car and its many variations since 1991 or 92. car had been converted to a slopenose when i purchased...and was guards red. the factory color was continental orange. might change it back to that one of these days, but not now. i have replaced the gt2 tail with a factory 930 tail and will most likely run a ducktail when it is street worthy... and yes, it has genuine RUF yellowbird bumpers/spoilers. already sold the Ruf gauges as i will use Livorsi gauges.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1291828937.jpg

received the renegad hybrids ls conversion kit to include the KEP stage 2 pressure plate and organic race disc, flywheel, hardened ring gear, t/o bearing and engine adaptor.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1291914569.jpg

Sounds like a nice engine.
I have never looked into doing a conversion like this but how much would you be looking at cost wise ? what would the 600+HP engine alone cost? I am not trying to derail your project but I have seen 993 3.6L twin turbo engines listed from $14-18 and can easily put out over 600HP . Did you at all consider going that route? Good luck with the project and I look forward to seeing it progress. |
stuff continues to come in! hope to get the Livorsi gauges early next week!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1292607881.jpg

What are you going to do for CV joints and axles? Think the 930 stuff will hold up?
|
i have similar sized cv joints and axles in my other conversion. the 434 sbc conversion develops as much torque, but not as much horsepower. i am counting on the 930 stuff to hold up my driving style. i'm not a pedal to the metal street racer!

A V8 seems smother and easer on drive train with 4 power pulses per motor revolution compared to a 6 cylinder at 3 per revolution.

subscribed. Love seeing more LS conversions.

I can't believe the nerve of you "hot rodders"!! It's blasphemy!! Just joking...I've been watching Todd's for months. I've already spoken with Steve at RH, I'm going to do the same thing as soon as my Master card cools off a bit from my transmission/ interior/ bumper cover purchase. I'm thinking twin turbo LS1 at some point though. I'm also planning on dual cubed radiators behind the front bumper cover...I don't want to give up my trunk space and I have a friend that works at a place that builds custom radiators and intercoolers. I was turned off be the idea at first but, more hp, less weight, and much less money...not a real hard decision for me.

RUF is building a V8 for their 911s...

stuff keeps coming in....Mast Motorsports wiring harness minus the computer and the drive by wire pedal...http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1294146372.jpg

Continental orange is a pretty rare color that may be worth going back to if you ever repaint. The color really suits the 911.

Great project. Looking foward to the posts!

update
Livorsi called this morning and gauges are to be shipped today. the black faced gauges had a white color diffuser that i did not want so that had to be modified...delay my fault! the Mast Motorsports LS7 engine should be complete and dynoed by next monday. i am anticipating 700 to 725 CHP. Gas tank is completed and installed as well as the almost finished radiator and shroud. i am attempting to fully seal the radiator inlet and outlet air so that it does not migrate to the front compartment and hence into the interior. the radiator shroud also encompasses an aluminum bulkhead as a secondary line of defense. this bulkhead will be sealed and have a full width rubber gasket that will seal against the bottom of the hood. my hood is aluminum so the gasket will have to be very soft and as yet is not in place. still have to develop the ducting from the spoiler opening to the radiator cooling side. still much work to be done in the radiator area to improve the appearance.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1294676171.jpg
