test fit. needs some modifications to the tstat housing but there is plenty of room elsewhere.

Gauge panel almost done. just need to mount some flush tabs on back and wrap in it black leather to match dash. boost gauge will be going in center console

WOW, it sits nice and low back there. I was thinking for sure there would be clearance issues on the rear top of the valve cover. Looking forward to starting my VR6 project when i find the funds.

Motorsport-Tech 06-24-2012 05:21 PM

That is definitely sitting lower than normal in this pic but its really a nice fit height wise. i'll post some pics this week with it in place and the deck lid on.

Are you planning on some crazy HP numbers or just something mild? If I go with a VR6 I think it is mandatory that I do something wild as far as HP. I think 600HP would possibly help the Porsche purest to overlook the fact that my car is no longer air cooled Porsche powered. hahaha

Are you doing a complete engine build for a turbo or just going to use the head spacer? From the looks of all the room back there, are you going to mount the radiator in the back with electric fans? I think a side mounted radiator with some ducting would be cool. That would allow for a single or dual top mount intercoolers.

Motorsport-Tech 06-25-2012 08:48 AM

Radiator up front like the ls swap cars. bought a turbo bumper for the opening and have a electric fan on back of rad. yes im doing a turbo. headgasket on this 12v for now but i might build a 3.2 vr this winter. 500whp range. intercooler up in the wing or possibly smaller duals down below. after i get the cradle built i'll see what i have room for. what chassis are you planning?

Mike Hall 06-28-2012 05:31 AM

I may try to mount the radiators in the front fenders like the 964 oil cooler and AC conditioner. I am working on a 92 964 chassis but I am back dating it to look like a 73 RSR with 3 piece 17" fuchs and steel 930 flares. I am also planning to modify original steel 1973 rear bumpers to fit the 930 flares so I have a lot on my plate before i start on the power end of this project.

gotcha. should be quite a bit cheaper and easier to put one into a chassis that doesn't have the rear cross member up over the tunnel. if someone does the 993 chassis, bring your wallet and brains lol

here it is fitted in the correct location. plenty of oil pan clearance seeing as it sits above the sway bar. pretty happy about that.

tucked in there.

Still looks like it may be possible to use a small duck tail style deck lid?

yeah i dont think it would be an issue. its really the end part of the valve cover thats the issue but if the tail has any clearance it will be fine. i have a side shot i'll post later.

quattrorunner 07-04-2012 11:09 AM

That would clear a duck.

DeckMan 07-14-2012 05:41 AM

Looking good!

Motorsport-Tech 08-01-2012 06:25 AM

some stuff going on lately. extended studs installed so i had to replace the rear wheel bearings in doing so. centers are stripped and and powdercoater. completed the underbody coating. more turbo parts have shown up as well as my inline tstat since i deleted the plastic tstat housing.

Cool project, although I don't quite understand the point. None the less very cool.

clutch-monkey 08-19-2012 04:55 PM

holy crap that engine is tall! gives you plenty of space either side of it, i suppose.

crimson ghost 09-10-2012 01:28 PM

Really looking forward to seeing this thing on the road. I loved my turbo VR6.
