i am doing this swap also.... i did a pros and cons list with the motor and i cannot find anything about the vr6 i was upset about....vr6 is capable of building just as much power as a flat six or more... and do it way cheaper.... the vr6 loves rpm.. not to mention boost! the tuning world for the vw's is almost endless.. you can drive it everyday and not worry about the timing chain covers leaking all over hell! id also like to state a vr6 is in my eyes up to par with a flat 6 in the sound department. you could say the vr6 has a heavy block compared to the flat six... but you get to do away with the giant oil tank of a porsche along with all the coolers in the rear.. all the engine surround tin....its a horse a piece.. i personally would never spend the money on a flat 6 again...unless it was a 01+ 996 twin turbo swap but even then the vr6 builds just as much power...the haters will say "i dont get it" but when it comes down to it using this motor is just making a good car better for the person who really wants to drive the car...

The only drawback, that I would see is the you are putting a lot more weight up high, vs down low

In for the first burnout... get this done already. ;-)

how does your front motor mount work? or is it not fab'd yet? any idea how much boost you will be running?
|
What do you mean? are you talking about the engine cradle itself?
|
the mount on the accessory side of the engine. im changing mine so i can fit a different exhaust. just curious as to what yours turned out like.

sorry for the late reply :)

What we've come up with for one spot on the coolant system to replace the t stat housing. This is going to upper radiator. uses a standard chevy thermostat
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psc6b7e971.jpg Finally got the radiator bracket set up. Just need to weld the one half to the frame rail and it will bolt in and out pretty easily. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...pse4b66749.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psb8b1fd87.jpg Scrapping the bilsteins with limited adjustability and picked up some h&r's. This should do nicely to get it on the ground. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps8dd4e6b4.jpg |
Throttle body and ecu just got here. Now i need to order turbo and piping and get that routed up. Sending ecu off to C2 Motorsports
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps487311d0.jpg Also got a few bits for interior as well as the rest of the seals i needed http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psae0df1e8.jpg Here's my concoction for the upper radiator hose. I just made a billet flange and ran a super tight 90 to avoid cutting into the rear suspension brace. I need to cut this down and clean it up once the lower hose is fitted as its kinda ugly haha http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psf3046da2.jpg Here's the tstat setup. Need to add a bracket as well as a bung for coolant to the head and ecu temp sensor bung. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps853db33a.jpg Hoping for nice weather this wknd to paint bumper, wing and deck lid. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps9c0096cc.jpg I need to get a hold of a 90 degree elbow and hope i can trim it back enough to clear this. Much closer than i thought it was going to be. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps68099e9f.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps1ac0ae52.jpg |
Started cleaning up the TB. Was thinking of polishing it, but that's just not my style on engine bay stuff.

its a success! haha damn this was not where i applied the measure twice, cut once method. I had the lower and upper mixed up so i had to cut them off and duplicate the angles of each other. Anyway its all done now and the hoses have nice easy bends through out the car. Mount the fan and 2 bungs left to put in the crack pipe and cooling is finally complete.

it looks really good so far!!

excited to finally see wires in the car :D
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps99eba27b.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps0d2e7aee.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps12af7f84.jpg |
Started making the rest of the fuel lines. Damn i have a lot of small holes in my fingers :D
http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps7751c935.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps9c924e55.jpg No matter what length i cut the hose i couldn't get the factory fuel line not to have a drastic bend in it with my mix n match fittings so i ordered the correct fittings to shorten that up. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps155265cd.jpg After fittings get here the fuel lines and fpr are mounted and complete so im starting on a coil pack bracket. |
great idea, I've thought about doing this conversion but thought I'd be crazy. Its looking good and def a lot cheaper to make 500whp with just a head spacer ;)

Re: 993 Vr6 Turbo project
...and they make a heck of a noise while doing so. A replacement engine costs as head studs for a 911.

heres some things ive been finishing.
throttle cable. i had pegasus racing send me a sheath plus 4ft from the oem cable and then 144" of cable so i could run the cable just like factory thru the floor tube. since nobody makes a metric end we took a bolt, drilled it, crimped it and then welded the tip. fit right onto the porsche ball socket. for the rear my buddy stanley made an exact piece as the vw. this time he pulled the wire thru, melted the wire into the end and put some filler rod in there. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps5db28b95.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps995c8045.jpg and i needed to add a tab http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps9d6490bf.jpg had to make this up to clear the wastegate. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps14aca617.jpg decided to go ahead now and change the cooling sytem to all AN fittings http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psbe5d4dd5.jpg all the wiring is into the bay. ready to be plugged in. i also shaved the alternator down a fuzz as it wasnt quite hitting the intake but now its got an 1/8th. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...psd92d35f5.jpg These allow me to keep the factory fuel lines and get a leak free fit. other end is AN. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ps0680f4b8.jpg |
