Lexus option
If a Chev will fit, a Lexus V8 will too.
Advantages, lightweight, all alloy, quad cam, Vvt (from 1998) 32 valve. 6 bolt mains. engines up to 1000hphave been built without touching the bottom end, and an engine that gets even better when boosted. (if you can squeeze a bit more space, Lexus/Toyota has a V12.) 928 V12 6 speed

RHD so brake MS and Servo (Mk 4 Supra) are on the opposite side,
heap of room at the front for a turbo. was part of the plan originally , but probably never do it, it's quick enough without one. ![]() ![]()

Fits quite nicely under the curvature of the hood there. Thanks!

Your first assumption is incorrect. The LS engines are much smaller than the Lexus v8's. Remember that they're pushrod v8's not quad cams. Here's a picture of a Ford Coyote motor and a 302. The LS is dimensionally similar to the 302 and the Coyote is dimensionally similar to the Lexus engine.
What is true, however, and the reason it fits, is this assumption: "If the Porsche Quad-Cam v8 fits, then the Lexus Quad-Cam v8 will fit." Remember, that's a big, wide motor you're replacing in the 928. ![]()

Unfortunately I did not get a picture of the two engines side by side, but lexus is definitely a lot skinnier than the Porsche,
When pulling the Porsche V8 (early 16 valve version) motor out, the clearance heads to guards is about a quarter inch per side (at one stage, I thought it might have to come out from underneath) The Lexus has a good 3 1/2 inches per side clearance. I found this comparison lexus V8 with Rover V8 (Buick/Olds 215 from about 1960- the English kept it alive for another 40 years ![]() Rover V8 vs Lexus V8 Dimensions - Super 7th Heaven Jadewombat, I didn't quite get the engine to fit the hood curvature, the throttle body was just a fraction too high, lexus used a fly by wire accelerator, and as aftermarket ECUs are illegal for road use in Australia, and the conversion had to be engineer certified as complying to all Australian design rules I had to leave it there. (I know, everyone and their brothers has a Motec etc ECU) I had to put a scoop on to cover it, a small one six inches square would have covered it, but would have looked a bit stupid, so I went with a 1965 Cobra Mustang- reversed. Getting the hood curve onto the scoop was harder than it looked, didn't realize the Porsche hood had that much curve. I will replace it in the future with a fibre glass or carbon fibre full hood skin that includes the bulge, ![]()

Yeah that Buick 215 just won't go away... It's still in use in Range Rovers today. Hard to believe.
The Lexus engine looks smaller than I would have thought. I'll go grab some similar dimensions off the LS in the 911 tomorrow and post them. One thing I found though is that the Coyote motor is only 40 lbs heavier than an LS. It looks massive, but it actually doesn't add much weight. I suspect the Lexus engine is similar that way. Did you capture weights? H

The LS engine has the following dimensions - roughly - I measured it in the car and it's difficult to be precise in the vertical plane due to the rear crossmember.
Using the dimension labels from the picture in the link above, the height from the center of the crank to the top of the highest metal structure on the motor (A) - is 13". Note that the manifold sticks up another 3" beyond that. From the center of the crank to the bottom of the oil pan (B) is 6". The maximum width - (F) is 20". Based on that the Lexus engine is 5 inches wider and 8 inches shorter.

When I first posted " if a chevy will fit, a Lexus will to" I was thinking into a Boxster, wasn't thinking 911, just noticed this on another forum I'm on.
Project already started, 1UZ into a 77 911S 1UZ swap for Porsche 911 - Lextreme: Lexus-Toyota V8 Forum update, just noticed that the install pic's won't open unless you join the forum-looks good!
