Sorry I don't believe this one....

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1987-porsche-911-carrera-34/

Scroll down and read some of the charges on the $39k repair "estimate / bill"

I simply cannot believe that anyone would pay that bill, I don't care how much money you have, the labor hours on some of the jobs are mind boggling.

Fake or real, anyone reading that will NEVER gonto thet shop. Either they are a rip off artist and a crook or they are willing to fake an invoice and are still a crook. Wow.

I can buy $39K in work over a period of time. But in one shot? That seems suspicious.

On another page they billed 26 hours to remove the clutch and flywheel.

What did they do with the other 25 hours after they removed them?

The AC line is cheap. Pelican lists it at $170.
Guess they need to make their margins elsewhere

Well, 3/4 of the bill is for ~233 hours of labor. Pretty sure I've put more than 233 hours into my car. Good thing my going rate is only 1 beer/hour.

I have spent that much on a renovation of my 69S, 73T and 83SC (almost) but not on a 57,000 mile car. The replacing of the carpet is the repair I would want a clearer understanding of.

I have a Porsche acquaintance that also purchased a low-mileage 87 in which the previous owner had spent an insane amount of money in a similar fashion. Big difference was it was over a period of ownership not one fell swoop.

Not to justify the expense, but the car in the add photos very well. My guess is that yes, someone took an aged Carrera and opened the checkbook (and other things) and had it fully restored. Some people can do that.. not everyone does the work themselves while the car is up on jack stands and 2x4s. Others love to tear things apart and spend their time and effort learning and doing and doesn't matter how long it takes.

Its not the total dollar amount that concerns me. I am sure you can easily spend more. It's the hours they were billed for some of the jobs which are insane.

Exactly. You need to look at the details. One can put hundreds of hours into a restoration, but some of that stuff a toddler could repair faster.

This is really what it boils down to and the shop can charge whatever it wants for a particular job. I just reglued the sagging vinyl to my door pockets and easily have 6 hours in each door when you factor in removing the panel, stretching the vinyl, gluing, clamping, sourcing missing hardware and so on. Maybe the owner would want to take a look at some sort of punch clock for some of those times but then again, the owner might not even care. I sure have run across customers like that in my time.

I’m not paying a shop to “spend their time and effort learning and doing” because to me it does “matter how long it takes.”

^this
One reason to pay a professional is because they can do it both better and faster than I can.

No question that some jobs there are no book hours for. The thing is the jobs that were billed at criminal numbers of hours were not subjective jobs like the sagging vinyl you did. 26 frigging hours to remove the old flywheel and clutch. I am not kidding you when I say I could do it blind folded in a tiny fraction of that amount of time. I'll ask again, what did they do for the other 25 hours?

I wonder, looking at that invoice if the interior was full of mold. That would explain the amount of time spent.

In any case, the engine sounds terrible to me in the driving video.

911r has some kind of a trick with microphone placement that makes hotrods sound more badass than they are and stock cars sound like they're broken. I would bet the true interior sound of this car is much more mild in reality.

I like the volume, it just sounds to me like it's running on 5 cylinders.

IIRC he mentioned that he places the mic for the camera out back by the exhaust.
