What is a core 2.2S engine worth?
I have recipts for various machine work done including new valves and guides. Other than that, it's a crap shoot. Hasn't run since the early 80's. I would drop the engine, remove the tranny, then strap to a pallet.
I am curious to see what others believe market value to see if it's worth dropping it. Thanks, BK ![]()

Tough call, since it looks like everything would have to be taken apart, then rebuilt if possible. Probably the highest value is in the MFI, and even it needs rebuilding. I'd hate to name a number...1-2 thou? Maybe?

Hi BK, well, because I'm interested in the engine for myself, I'd like to tell you that it's a worthless pile of crap, but the truth is that it has value simply because it's an "S". Check the numbers to be sure though (I can do that for you if you'd like). I agree with pwd72s assessment; the MFI may have the most value of all. There's so many unknowns; are the P&C's any good, is the case good, will the cams need to be redone, will the MFI pump need a rebuild.... Anyway, like I said, I'm interested in this engine for my '71 S resto, so let me know what you decide your asking price is and we'll go from there. One other thing to consider is what you want to include with the engine. I could certainly use some of the oil lines & the thermostat. :^)

If I could have gotten more than 1 - 2k for the engine, I would have considered parting the car out. Too late now though, the entire car is on eBay. We'll see if she meets reserve!

I found, and went to the ebay link on the car. Just wanted to say thanks for your truth in advertising...

Which part? When I said I don't have the skills to do a proper restoration?
![]() I think deep down I really don't want to sell this car. She is finally next in line. Once I finish my 71E, it's her turn. Unless somebody hit's reserve. ![]() But thanks for the kind words. I don't want anybody getting screwed like many of us have been by PO's.
