Value Of this RSR Clone
I have had this 911 up for sale for a few weeks with fair action but no in person looks or buyers. I'm not in a rush to sell but would like to move it to fund other projects that I want to finish. What do you guys think about the price etc? Porsche “1974 IROC RSR”
Thanks - Chris |

Chris,
I have lusted after your car ever since I saw it! It is beautiful and well built. However, it does mean that you will have a more limited pool of potential buyers. When I was looking to get my car, I wanted a mostly stock, everything works kind of car. I passed on some more track oriented cars in that hunt. Of course, here I am 2+ years later wishing I had got a coupe that was more track oriented. I still drive mine almost daily so there has to be some day to day driveability for me, so my car remains mostly stock. I even have working AC! Anyway, sorry to ramble. I think your car is WORTH everything you are asking, but getting the right buyer lined up could take a while. The other thing is there are some other nicely set up cars competing with yours. Not saying that yours isn't nicer, just saying there are other cars out there that would fit the needs of potential buyers....... Also, the season and the economy in general is not helping. I have seen some REALLY good deals on 911 lately and wished I could stock up! Want to trade for a targa worth half as much?? ![]() -Chris

Customized cars are always a slow sell. We are also heading towards Xmas.
I think the price may be on the high side even though I'm sure you have more than $30K into it. When potential buyers go though the value equation I think they think that they could pick up a 74/75 restoration candidate for around $5-10K which would leave them $20-25K to build the car of their dreams. |

The other struggle is the that to PCA Club Race the car, you would be in GT class, and that would require a different (and also expensive) motor to have a chance at being competitive.
While it may make an excellent DE car, it is modded enough to mean the target audience is very small. Then realize that people still prefer to build their own cars than buy someone elses project and customize it. Combine it with winter and the holidays coming and many folks are less concerned about car buying. If this were springtime with the track season just beginning, I think you would have a better chance of selling quickly and closer to your asking price. |

I think chris, anthony and Racer all have very valid points.
You have so much into it, I think the Price is fair to the right person. Looks very well sorted. The time of the year is not the best. Can you wait a while on the sale?

Thanks for all of the responses. Mostly re-affirmation of what I thought. I don't really need to sell it now (and don't necessarily want to) but I have a 930 that will soon be finished along with 2 early 911's ready for paint. I'm trying to be responsible and not spend any new money for my insanity. I am considering also putting the 930 up for sale and keeping the leftover when one sells. This RSR project was great fun to do and I am kind of attached. If in the end I still have it I will put a 3.6 as I originally intended and enjoy it. I guess I'll keep the asking the same for the time being.
Thanks-Chris
