80 911 SC Weissach Value ?-Slightly Modified
I'm looking at a nice 80 Weissach SC-Cosmetically stock and quite nice. Original Paint 8.5. Factory 7&8x15 Fuchs original..8.5. Interior including factory sport seats and leather dash, 8.5. 85K miles and engine rebuilt at 65K due to studs(all receipts). PMO's, SSI's, Factory Short Shift, Bilstein Sport Rear and HD Front. A/C removed. Have all factory installed equipment. Would appreciate thoughts on value. Its a very nice original car other than the PMO's, SSIs and Dansk 2 In 1 Out muffler. Do the mods hurt or help the value? Any thoughts on value would be appreciated.

I sold my Weissach last year for $25k. 80k, fresh rebuild, fresh paint, fresh leather, ac non-op.

80 Weissach Value
Thx for the response. Sounds like you did quite well. Was it sold locally (Hawaii) or? My primary interest is understanding the impact of the Mods--specifically the PMO's, SSI's and Air Delete--on its value. While the Weissach seems to be a love it or hate it car due to the color combo, its limited production of 400ish seems to provide some pricing support.

Yes, it was sold locally. Then the new owner put a big azz stereo system in it.
![]() As for the car you are interested in, IMHO, the SSIs and Dansk add value to it as it flows better than the stock exhaust and it sounds way better! The SSIs are a $2k upgrade by itself. The PMOs are great to have and makes for a spirited driver, but will be a minus (-) for collectors. The ac system wasn't worth a damn, but did the seller remove the compressor, or did he remove the lines and condenser/evaporator as well? If he still has them, it would be okay, but if someone really wanted to get the ac working, the first thing to do is replace the lines and convert the compressor. Then upgrade to an additional condenser, fans... As for value, check this link from Hagerty. Price Guide Report Your car sounds like it could be between a Condition 2 and Condition 3 car.

80 Weissach Value
Thanks for the additional feedback, Bryan. Appreciate the link as well! I've been a Hagerty customer forever and never knew this tool existed. BTW, I'm a 25 yr PCA member having had numerous 911's over the yrs. My typical passion revolves around nice low mileage original cars, like my current ride--a 1984 Carrera with 28K miles. In fact, my 84 looks so much like a Weissach since it came with the Platinum Metallic 7&8x15 wheel option and Sport Seats. Anyhow, I'm occasionally swayed by a well preserved/maintained "slightly modified" car like this Weissach. I'm somewhat reluctant to strap on my 84 cuz its so nice...whereas I can jump in a less than perfect $15k "driver" and get a lot of enjoyment. Just always trying to limit the downside (financial) risk.

80 Weissach Value-Slightly Modified
Anyone else care to chime in on the value impact of PMO's and SSI's on an otherwise original low mileage 80 SC Weissach

I like PMO's, but it raises the question.. why? Was someone unable to diagnose CIS issues? Usually, when you put on carbs, to get better performance, you need to change cams. SC cams and carbs don't do anything for power.
Resale.. Can't be registered in California.. not sure about any other state. Then again, the way the greenies are running and "clean" cars are trendy, who knows if someday down the road it would become an issue. SSI's are nice. If you are buying the car "as an investment", the mods hurt the car. truly original condition cars will gather more at resale then modded cars, especially as they get older and more scarce. I like the Weissach, but to me its just a "trim package". I mean cmon, would you pay more for a Lexus with the gold package than without? or the Chrysler with the Landau top or not?

Racer, all great points. The CIS was problematic and the owner became enamored with the beauty of the PMO's....I mean they are eye candy! But you're right, PMO's without cams (and perhaps pistons) are not really a performance improvement. I had a 78 SC with SSI's, M21(964) cams, Dansk sport muffler and the stock CSI system that would run circles around this 80 SC.
On that thought, what cam do you think would work best with the stock CIS flat tops??? |

I think the mods hurt the car if you're talking about collector value. Weissachs aren't highly sought after cars, but there is a small group of collectors looking for good ones and willing to pay a (slight) premium over a standard car (I'm one of them). That premium evaporates with the mods. As these cars increase in value, unaltered Weissachs will increase at a better rate than non-Weissachs, but only if they're original.
Great cars though. If you're not looking at it from a collector's perspective, none of this matters. |
