How ads change

From car to project.......Luckily this did not end up with an inexperienced buyer. The chassis looks nice, tbough.

Should be a great winter project for someone.

I was actually wondering how much he was looking to get with the motor out but the new ad doesn't have a price. The car has been for sale for almost a full year. It looks nice other than the engine issue. Would be a nice home for a 3.0 or 3.2.

Yea I saw that. Mid year prices have been on the rise but I think he will keep it till he either finds/installs a motor or lowers the price. In the last few months we have seen a 76 3.2 conversion sell for 17.5k and a 74 with a 3.0 for 19.5k. Both of these were nice running cars. Also, his car being apart makes it much harder to check out and ship. You are talking close to double the shipping cost on that car in pieces vs together and running. Not to mention you can actually check out the trans/brakes/suspension/electronics with a running car.

Seller's ads keep changing... even the old ones. Here's one with 16K price listed. 1976 Porsche 911S for sale Seller seems to think that mid-year S's are somehow special like early S's and that Fuchs are "rare".

What's a "reasonable" price for such a mid-year project, assuming there's no rust/ old accident damage and its the orig color etc? 8K? Seller gives every indication that he's unreasonably stubborn about price... but I'm curious.

I seem to remember him mentioning a fairly decent sized dent in the floor pan at some point but I don't see mention of it now. Other than that the body looks nice. The interior looks like a 7/10 but overall pretty nice for over 200k on the car. The car is mostly what I would want in a mid year. Single mirror, no sunroof, bright trim. I think it would move at 12-13k. 3.5k for a 3.0 motor, do the head studs, add a new clutch, still not underwater if you turn your own wrenches. That is about as good as you can hope for on most projects.

Gotta disagree with that assessment.

The second ad has been removed by the seller but I'm assuming from the discussion above that the car is now offered as parts less engine.

If you pay 12-13K for the car less engine, and 3.5K for an engine, you're in it for 16.5K BEFORE you do any other work, or even assemble the damn thing. That's getting towards the top end in asking price for high-mileage midyears, engine swap or no. Besides, once it's all apart, who's really going to want to reinstall a crappy 7/10 interior? The temptation to upgrade may well prove irresistible and the result will likely be another classified ad in 3-5 years offering the car in parts again...

Cheers

d.

Huh? The car isn't apart. The engine is out of it but it is included and has some value. That said, he removed the ad. Maybe he found a motor.
