eBay is comical
Here is a 1980 SC Targa with 60k on it bid to almost 28k
Here is a 1983 SC Coupe with 31k miles and the best bid is $23,6 I am not saying the bid wont go higher on the coupe and if the car is what it says it is the price should probably be higher. Looking at the two the Silver Targa looks to have some shill bidding going on.

The Targa is back down to 17k. Maybe the bidder was just testing for what the high bid was... people have done this on my auctions (non-auto). They throw in a ridiculous high bid to see the current high bid or reserve price and then retract their bid.
I can't put my finger on it, but the coupe looks shady. Probably the color enhancement of the photos and the contrast between the top and bottom of the engine.

If I had to guess on how many "winning bidders" don't follow through, I'd say 20-25%.
This is a combination of over-excited shilling, 'wife says no' guys and 'my kid clicked the button' guys. Not to mention, bids on cars are not binding. An inspection can allow a 'winning bidder' out of a deal.

Ha! I didn't understand what you guys might mean. But they really did hose down the underside with silver paint. A couple light passes of... zinc paint? Classy how its crusted on the nuts. Have folks seen this before? Is this the dawn of a new sales technique? Nasty! |

I don't trust mileage on any SC these days without a solid paper trail. The cars are at least 30 years old and the odometers tend to break. While I don't really want one of them showing 200k+ miles, 30-60k isn't exciting me either. Wouldn't touch that red car due to the spray paint job.

I don't trust any ebay car period. I mean why would someone sell a good car on ebay? Much easier to get rid of a genuine 911 locally, via PCA, friends or on one of the specialist boards. Ebay is a good way to get rid of a problem car to a buyer who is out of town.
Never ever buy a 911 on ebay without a PPI and also pay yourself and physically look at it and the seller. |

Answer from the seller of the coupe - not that it is any of my business, I just hate that someone is getting the shaft by a scoundrel.
Read from bottom. Dear 1993usmid-amchamp, I was not trying to be rude - just honest. The car is misrepresented and has not been a 31k miles car for many years. Have a nice weekend. Here is eBay's policy on eBay Motors listings:
"For motor vehicles and real estate, a bid or offer initiates a non-binding transaction representing a buyer's serious expression of interest in buying the seller's item and does not create a formal contract between the buyer and the seller." Note the terms: "non-binding" "not a formal contract" |

Nothing wrong with selling a car on eBay, it opens the car up to the national and world market.
Like any advertising venue there are pitfalls. I would always recommend a PPI, without it you may be in for a surprise. I think blanket statements about most things on internet forums are a given as well as the people with an obvious axe to grind.... |
