Another RSR Clone Project - Update
Since all of you guys have been so helpful with advice on my RSR Clone project, I thought that I'd post a few pictures and give an overall progress report
Check my previous post "Another RSR Clone Project" to get some additional background on this conversion of a 1973.5 911T to RSR Clone. Right now the car is at Auto Associates in Canton, CT for the body work. I stripped the car down to bare shell in my gargage removing everything including all undercoating and sound deadening. I also cut back the rear quarters to trial fit the flares and to give better access to the rear wheel wells. Some photos: ![]() ![]() ![]() Once I finished stripping the car, it was transpoted to the body shop. This work will include reinforcement of shock towers and sway bar mounts, installation of a front cooler duct and RSR style roll bar, fiberglass rear flares, front fenders, hood and deck lid. The car is being stripped to bare metal and resprayed signal orange. Gearbox - ZF limited slip, stock 1st & 2nd, 22/29 3rd, 25/27 4th & 27/25 5th Front suspension - JRZ raised spindle, single adjustable, 23 mm hollow t bars, aluminum cross member, stock 19 mm sways, zimmerman rotors with S calipers, Polybronze bushings with monoballs. Rear Suspension - Alloy trailing arms, 30 mm hollow t bars, adjustable spring plates, zimmermans with M claipers and polybronze with monoballs. Engine - 3.0 SC motor to be rebuilt with JE pistons, PMO's headers, hotter cam and maybe twin plug. You guys have convinced me that I need to run 17 in rear wheels to open up my options for tires. I am thinking of using 16 in in the front so that I will only need to replace the rear wheels should I decide to make this a vintage race car. Beeeutiful, please keep us posted. My son and I are now contemplating the next "project" and I feel an RSR in the future.

Man I dont know if I would go Orange, that blue color is sweet. I am curiuos, since you are going to all of the trouble and expense to do your suspension so nicely why not go with coil overs? Or is that down the road if you go racing. That is one of the cleanest pre paint tubs I have ever seen or imagined - beautiful. I cant believe that tub has zero rust or decay - like it was in a time capsule!

Work looks beautiful but agree with EW that Orange would not be my first choice. That said, its your car and paint it however you like!

I like the orange too, I just like that blue, the green from the era would rock also. I wish I had this problem :-))

The cage is from Matter , a German Manufacturer . Most likely we will use the Car , next year in the PCCT and than we have to put a Steel one in and this one is for sale than . I let you know . What is a Car like this going for in the US today . It is perfect ,with a 915 and a 3.2 liter C1 ,Turbo Steering ,Bilstein Suspension ,All original RS Body parts . Less than 15 Tmiles since major restoration ( all Documented with Photos and receipts ) The Car looks as nice on the Underside as it looks in the Trunk and outside . The restoration was 70 K Harald |

great pictures, great spec too. My only comment would be to go with the 15's. its not an 73 RSR if it hasn't got them lunatic 11x15 fuchs out the back. you are right about tyre options but there is a couple of options available. there is a new tyre from michelin. its actually a re-issue of a classic tarmac tyre. its the TB15 rallye. i bought a pair a while ago for my RSR backdate. they make them in a large range of sizes (and soon compounds as well). they make a tyre size specifically for the RSR. there are also some new old stock yoko avs 285/40/15's around in the states too. you can use the scrubbed hoosiers as you are in the states.

Thanks for all the comments. I'll answer a few of the questions:
Color - The original plan was to go with the original color (Glacier Blue), however the paint was a laquer respray from the late 70's and needed to come off. That opened up my color choices and I had the June 2001 Pano with John Skoien's signal orange original RSR that I had fallen in love with. Suspension - I am going to be relearning track driving with this car. It's been 5 years since I've done a driver's ed. I figure t-bars and stock sways are a good starting point. It also preserves the origrinal appearance of the car. Body Parts - The rear flares, front fenders and trunk lid are coming from GT Racing. The guys at Auto Associates have done many of these types of conversions and they believe these components provide the best quality and fit. The engine lid is being made up special to use a metal lid with bonded duck tail like the original RS/RSR had. Wheels & Tires - I'm probably going to use 16's in the front and 17's in the rear. However, those 15 in Michelins look sweet and the car would look awesome with 15's. I'll probably go with driveability and availabilty with the 16/17 option. |
