I think it is time we had a dedicated 930S factory slantnose M505,M506 thread that would be easy to search for frequent users and for the first time users.
I was thinking of it more like a gathering place for anyone interested in these special cars. I have been thinking about this for awhile now. I see another current thread now 12.18.08 that another member is asked if all slantnose cars were 930's. Then it branched off into questions about 1 piece factory slantnose fenders or aftermarket inserts, etc. Of course pictures are always great. Any documents that you may want to post would be nice. Many of you guys have factory 930S's. I have a factory 87 930S that I will try to move around in the garage to get some pictures. I have helped people with measurements on the 930S over the years on items like the rear brake ducts, but that was posted somewhere else and I can't find it now. It would be easier to have this information in one place for easy research. What do you guys think?

I saw kilodawg's idea on a 930S registry and I think that is a great idea. If he sets up something I will help him anyway I can.
I was thinking we could use this thread for anything relating to factory slantnose M505 cars. This way it is easy to search with a keyword on pelican or google. I am looking for that fax that was sent to an unknown recipient on the production numbers of the 87-89 930S cars. I have it here somewhere and will post as soon as I find it.

kycarguy,
The book by Peter Morgan, "Original Porsche 911", has the production numbers of the pre-'87 Special Wishes slants, the '87-'89 M505/M506 production slants and also the Special Wishes '87-'89 M505/M506 cars with special mods by Werke I.

I'm not sure how acurate that book is regarding the "pre-'87 Special Wishes slants." That number is pretty hard to nail down as there were some cars that were special ordered, one-offs that were requested, and I personally know of a couple of cars that were actully sent to Sonderwush for conversion.
Wish I still had my factory M505.

all this recent talk about the slant/slope/flachbau has sparked an interest in me that hasn't really been around since I was a kid. I may be looking for one in a year or so. I say go for it. These cars were special, and it's (or their, for all of the variants and one offs)"foggy" past makes them interesting. I love reading the "boring facts" on cars, escpecialy on the Pcars.
Go for it guys! I'm looking forward to it. ![]()

onboost,
I worded it poorly. What I meant to say was....... ![]() Where there customer delivered cars that were actually returned to Sunderwush for Special Wishes work?

![]() Source - Blackhawk Collection More info: This 1980 Porsche 930 S Turbo Flat Nose Prototype was offered for sale at the 2007 Blackhawk Collection Exhibit held at the Pebble Beach Concours. It carried a price tag of $250,000. The VIN is WP0222932ZBS000136 This is the original factory prototype of the 930 S Turbo Slantnose. It was created by Porsche at the request of a German Businessman in June 1980 and first registered on the 23rd of October 1980 at a cost of $100,000.00. This car can be found in most books written on Porsches and is described as the first and only one produced that year. Source - Blackhawk Collection

Yes there were.. There were even earlier cars that were returned to the factory for restoration, this was usually handled through special wishes. Back in the early 90's we ended up with a turbo bodied 911.. The car was a 73.. closer inspection of the serial numbers revealed that it was a 73RS. It had been completely converted to turbo look, interior body etc.. still had the 2.7RS engine. We ended up selling the car, it was driven about a year and sold again. I understand that the next owner shipped the car back to Porsche to have it converted back to a proper RS.

Are you trying to create a slant nose registry for the pelican site or one in general? The reason I ask is that I believe there is a poster on rennlist who started one awhile back. Not tied to rennlist, but he posts there. Don't recall a name though. If you want to join forces or get more info, perhaps you can do a search there under the 911 turbo forum.
Good luck and I wish I had one! |

A930Rocket, I was hoping to start a 930S all informative thread for now.
I think kilodawg is thinking about starting a registry which would be great.

I believe the gentleman you refer to was from the U.K.. The Porsche Club of Great Britain has a registry for the Slants/SE's. It required a 50 PS membership fee to get in the club/registry, if I remember correctly.

From what I understand the SE's are really rare. I believe those would be a M506 right?

These were pre-M506/M505 versions. They were 330BHP engined cars made available some time in the early to mid '80's. Don't know the exact years.

Thanks for the info. I thought I read about the SE's in one of my books made for the UK market.
