Alright....
|
The car dies when the oil cap is removed...
New 3.2 owner here, had a 2.7. I took it around the block to warm up the engine and when I went to check the oil level, as soon as I remove the oil cap the car dies.
What am I doing wrong? I just did an engine swap so anything is possible.

Vacuum pressure I think, the car does hunt a little at idle when mine is removed but it really shouldnt kill the car.
good luck!

It means you probably have a second vacuum leak. What's the idle like before you removed the cap? Mine is usually at 950, and when I removed the cap, dropped to 300.

Alright....

The breather hose was cut when I got the car so I fabbed one up. I wonder if they have a check valve in them or something.
I figured that was it but had to ask. I guess I can just disconnect the hose and block it off when checking the oil.

Idle is about 1k before I remove the cap. It is possible I missed some lines before I installed it. I do have a rough idle but I am running without the O2. Was told I could run without it and just have a rough idle.

I think it has something to do with a restrictor that is supposed to go in the vent tube that attaches to the oil tank and the air box.
Taking off the oil cap is creating to much of a vacume leak. Just a guess.

A piece of round aluminum stock that will fit in the hose w/ a 1/4 hole through the center should work fine.

Alright....

So on the 3.2's they only require a small line to vent the tank.

Also check the infamous vacuum port on the backside of the intake. Should be on #3 intake runner.

Actually there is a restrictor in there on the 3.2, p/n 930 107 289 00.

clamp the breather hose with a vice grip or pliers and then take the cap off. If it dies then you have a leak somewhere else. If it doesn't then you are missing the restrictor mentioned above.

Alright....

Yes! The simple approach worked. The car idles with the hose clamped. And yes, the car was low on oil!

I went to Lowes and picked up a .75 cent copper 3/4" gas pipe cap. Drilled a 1/4 hole in it, then placed it in line and put a hose clamp on the outside. Works like a charm! I'll consider buying the $18 OEM part later when I want to upgrade......
