Please post your non-930 turbo builds.

I am looking for specific builds of those who have add boost to their 911, specifically 3.0L SC, but 3.2 Carreras would be fine as well.

I want to see what parts and combinations people have used... such as manifolds, intakes, turbos, intercoolers, what did you do for mounting the IC, or the turbo (ie braces) What WG, and fuel set up are you running, trying to get a feel for what people have done.

Thanks in advance.

-Carrera 3.2 w/3.4 Mahle P&C’s, 7.5:1CR
-Protomotive 1 5/8” headers with T4 flange
-TiAL F46 wastegate
-HKS 1 1/2” blow off valve
-Treadstone TRST9 1300hp capable vertical flow intercooler with inlet moved for 911 config
-Borg-Warner S366 T4 turbo (66mm comp, 73mm turbine, 0.91 AR twin-scroll)
-MegaSquirt II v3.57 PCB with Ford EDIS-6 ignition
-Siemens Deka 80lb high-Z injectors
-Large tapered cone K&N filter with 4” inlet
-Lots of eBay silicone couplers
-Gravity oil drain to oil drain plug
-Said to make around 575whp at 1.4 bar, but killed clutch on dyno (blowby made RMS leak oil on clutch). It made 400whp right at 4K RPM before clutch let go and boost was starting to go up

Is that a 915 box or short gear 930 box?

Here's my car with a tiny 58mm Holset HX40 at the same boost. I had a super restrictive air filter at the time, amazing it ran this good.

The filter was so restrictive, the BW S366 in the 1st vid wouldn't even make boost!

No, I didn't shift a bunch of times. I was getting wheel hop bad, so I let off in 2nd. It sounds like I grabbed another gear, but no. This is a 100% stock G50/01 with stock flimsy diff cover and no LSD; open diff.

Ran without an IC for a short time while making the new one. It was hitting 1.6 bar with 1.0 bar springs. Bad boost creep. Luckily, it was icy cold these days, so it wasn't pumping much too hot of air in the motor. I never stayed in it either, just short hits here and there. It was nasty!

Flat6 and ‘76 911, nice builds!!!!

Geronimo 09-26-2018 03:08 PM

Holy crap guys... this is exactly what I was hoping for.....

Such a cool collection of sick cars... Flatsix, love the flares, nuttin but business.

This might not have been a good thread to start... thinking expensive thoughts...

What are your guys thoughts on a "budget" build... FYI I don't know what that means.... thinking things like box headers, eBay TMIC, but a good turbo and supporting bits...

Also, thoughts on transmission solutions.

THANKS A TON!!!

Tippy 09-26-2018 05:10 PM

If you can fab yourself, this all can be done for really cheap relatively.

Not sure if VS Racing and On3 make turbos in the 50’s and 60’s mm’s, but those have been proven durable units that are peanuts.

eBay has a slew of intercoolers that cost $100-150. If you can fab your own mounts and piping, you’re golden.

Only major expense I foresee is headers and wastegate. Again though, if you can fab, you can convert long tune headers into turbo headers for cheap. eBay sells T3 and T4 flanges for around $50. Tubing is peanuts too.

Rodsrsr 09-26-2018 05:19 PM

Dang, we got some monsters here!!! Mine isn't as hard core but here goes:

US Spec 3.2 with stock compression. Top end rebuild with new valves, guides and webcam 20/21 grind cams. OBX headers (since the build) Tial wastegate, Precision Turbo, Rarelyl8 Outlaw muffler. For engine management stock motronic with RRFPR, MSD 6BTM for Ign retard and split second controler with PMAS MAF with GSF Intercooler. I didn't have luck with the gravity drain so I'm using a Turbowerks scavange pump which does a great job. The runs absolutely 100% perfect. Still running a stock 915 that I had rebuilt several years ago before going turbo. No launches and so far its holding up.

Great cars everyone!

IROC 912 09-26-2018 06:57 PM

What a beast Tippy ! #WANT #SweetBabyJesus

Mine is mild with alot of bolt ons ... US 3.2L, stock rebuild, 930 j pipe, Tial F46, AEM Infinity 6, COP ignition, Bosch 044 pump, 60lbs injectors, Treadstone custom intercooler and GT3076R turbo. The weak link is the 915 box and slipping clutch ... think thats what is keeping it together. Latest dyno run shows 300 RWHP / 300 RWTQ at 0.5 bar which I believe is about 350HP. Have a G50/01 that is begging to be installed ;)

Amazing builds on this thread !

No tail! That was one hung I wanted and gave up. I did have a peekaboo tail for a while though.

Realistically the only way this works is with some type of engine management. There are some budget resources out there. I am a big fan of the Microsquirt ECUs. They are small and capable. More than enough CPU power to run a turbo conversion controlling spark and fuel. There are a few I/Os for boost control and other simple ancillaries you might want to add. And a price of <$500.

Your easy button is a used 3.2 intake, some EFI system, off the shelf headers, some welding to connect a generic IC and you can put down 350hp without much difficulty. Its been done. And as you can see, there are some fantastic examples of these types of builds.

But @geronimo, Are you capable of building a system? And tuning it? You have multiple posts/threads about budget, not enough power, my car is not as fast as a Vette... (Thank the Lord its not the last one. )

In 99% of cases its the Nut behind the wheel that needs the most work. Spend a few track days with the car and when your lap times are maxed out on a stock car then start making changes. The 911 is very well balanced as a system in stock form. Suspension, brakes, power are all well matched. You can lean on any of these three boxes some but you can tip them over. Too much power and you need more brakes. Too much brake you need more tire. Too much grip you need suspension to match. Its a very slippery slope. Once you start down you don't go back up. The 911 is entirely worthy of upgrades. You have to figure out how far you want to go.
