Yet Another New 930 Project...

$38,881 in 2001 is light by today's standards, especially with the G50 included. Be thankful you did not have to bear the cost yourself.

Spent some time this weekend working on the car- fixed the loose steering column, updated guages with LEDs, cleaned up the trunk, installed new carpet, degreased the whole underside, changed the oil, changed brake lines and brake fluid, cleaned up the wheels and learned they are WORK Equip (12" rears), and lowered the front to match the rear stance.

I did try to find out what turbo was installed on the car, but the only plaque I could find on it read OJ27-3.

Still have a list of tasks to complete before Spring which include a sunroof seal replacement, re-install windshield, new seats and harnesses, harness bar, and a few cosmetic interior updates.

Love the car, the chrome... not so much. Well done on the cleanup, the paint looks really good.

Yeah- not a fan of the chrome myself- turns out the centers are chrome, the rims are polished aluminum. One option is to refinish these, but they're not very light so I'll keep waiting to see if the RUF 17" Classics are coming back for another run (missed them by a week?), otherwise I have an inquiry into the remakes as well.

Since these are brand new 315/30s on the rear, I may run these wheels until it's time for new shoes. Hopefully in that time I can have the replacement wheels sourced and waiting.

That's a really nice 930 with a bunch or excellent engine mods. And I really like how clean the engine and underside look. Lincoln is right, $38,000 for all those engine/transmission goodies is the buy of the (new) century. Get a detailer who really knows what he'd doing and that already nice paint will be spectacular.

Engine undeside wasn't all that clean until we went through it. Everything was brown until it got cleaned up; even the suspension components revealed color. $38k in mods is a deal considering I paid less than that for the whole car- it really was the buy of the century which is why I'm going through it trying to fix the little details that were neglected. Less than 5k miles since 2001 when most of the work was done, and an amazingly fast car.

Yep- that's where I got mine.

Process SHOULD have been simple- pull the gauges, pull the bulb holder (slip fit into the gauge), swap with LED bulb (twist out), and put them back.

However, my gauges were glued in and I never was able to get the tach out so I had to change the bulbs from behind while it was still mounted. Also, I have a NHS boost gauge replacing the clock, and that uses a larger wedge-type bulb which I'm still trying to find a solution for. I have a few bulbs inbound to sees if any of them will work right and match the rest of the gauges.

Difference is night / day over the old lighting; looks 100x better. I might still be able to post a comparison if people are interested as I have the old bulb in the boost gauge. Lighting is not only brighter, but much cooler (color temperature) so especially with my silver faced gauges it looks perfect.

Set includes blue and green highbeam/lights-on LED bulbs in addition to the lighting bulbs, but there will be other bulbs in the gauges that do not get replaced (mostly red warning lights from what I saw). I have not bothered to look into replacing those simply because improving lighting was my main goal.

While you're doing that, I also replaced the trunk lights front and rear and the interior dome lights with LED equivalents. They run much cooler and use less power, and if you wanted they have color options. I ordered these from superbrightleds.com

Fixed the sunroof, changed the steering wheel, finished the guage LED conversion, gauge bezels, cleaned up the engine bay some more, put the windshield back in. Seats ordered and when they come in, next weekend they'll go in along with the harness bar. Still have to order pedals and harnesses before interior is done. A couple of pics showing before and after, as well as with the lit LEDs (although in lit shop they don't show up very well). LEDs are a cool white, and wedge bulb for NHS boost gauge matched 100%.
