wirng harness questions.

Hi all, I am at the point where I need to make a career decision on my wiring on the project car. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-930-turbo-super-charging-forum/567389-new-member-930-project.html

I have some concerns that the wiring from the 82 chassis is going to be in rough shape. The car sat outside for some of the 16 years and a lot of the wiring that I have moved in the rear of the car is dry rotted. So I am leaning towards using the sire harness out of the 87 parts car.

My question is how does the harness come out of the car? on the 82, everything in the engine compartment is disconnected and hanging by the torsion tube, but there are several plugs that won't fit through the body if I try to pull it forward.

I am not concerned with keeping any of the engine management harness (using Electromotive TEC3), deleting the rear wiper, rear defrost etc.

I am looking for input on where I separate the harness so that I can pull it out complete. Not concerned about getting the 82 harness out because I can cut it out. But don't want to end up cutting the 87 when I get working on the rebuild.

Thanks in advance

Brendon

To take the engine harness off you need to basically take the top of the engine off, air filter, air box, intake manifold, IC, distribuor, alternator, cooling shroud, AC and may be drop the engine an inch or two to get to the starter plug. Also, keep in mind that engine harnesses vary from year to year.

Thanks, but I think I am past the engine part.

I am not concerned about the engine harness I have a complete engine hanress that goes with the stand alone management, I want to take the entire rest of car harness out.

I don't think you get the harness through the tunnel, eve if you remove all connectors, pins are just too big. I can remember when I removed mine 1oyears ago, I was that pissed on that harness that I finally cut it. And believe me, it was still hard to remove

My suggestion, built your own one, not that difficult

Thanks, I am sort of leaning in that direction. If it has to get cut out and I am going to be building part of it, might as well go all the way. I am going to use the front out of the 87 because I am using the 87 gauges and the wiring is in much better shape...... plus I have the wiring diagram for the 87
