BTW, I can count on one finger the number of Motec tuners in my area, on the other hand there are about 6 shops within 30 minutes of me that build, install, tune and work on MS

Agreed, the money is gone (it is a hobby, after all) but the reality is that we will all sell our cars at some point for a variety of reasons. It then becomes a matter of how long it takes to move it; a week or two years. Selling price becomes important too. Anyone would hate to give away their car because of distasteful and/or unwise mods.

This is supposedly the latest and greatest MegaSquirt ECU.
MS3-Pro Standalone Engine Management System by DIYAutoTune.com ![]() It isn't as cheap as the other units but I like the compact design and the fact that everything is built in. DIYAutoTune is up the street from me so this is likely the direction I'm going in. I agree with drmatera about Motec. They seem extremely expensive for what you get and any add ones they charge extra for even if it is just unlocking some code within the software. This 2nd hand system sold for over $4000, http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-used-parts-sale-wanted/719590-fs-new-motec-m800.html. I'd rather put that money into a set of heads. Hi,
I'm another MS guy started with an 88 M6 that I bought as a roller and put in a turbocharged M30 engine. That was a simple set up, batch fired injectors and retained the distributor. Then when I got my hands on the 930 I found the CIS confusing and complicated and add to that the lack of timing control made the decision to go MS easy. I went to what was the latest MS system a year ago and put together a fully sequential twin plugged system. Peter Florance at Welcome to PFTuning.com is worth a chat. He built my MS units and provided the harness parts and all the advice I needed to put it all together and make it work. You will love the ability to tune and adjust and know what is going on in your engine. Driveability is better too. Have fun, Dave |

The statement made about Motec being extremely expensive may only apply to their high end models. The M84 listed in the link below does everything I want for any 911 thru 993 model cars, plus more. When you consider the challenges of doing these complex systems on a daily basis, you need to have a person to talk to for technical issues. This is where Motec shines and is well worth the price. A Motec engineer is just a phone call away. I usually get very fast response from email....and if I get in a bind and have a question on Sunday, I email Motec Australia since it is Monday there.
Besides, the quality of the ECU and wire harnesses matches the quality found in Porsche cars. Warranty on the ECU is 2 years. Motec also has training "Webinars" on their website that are very informative, I2 data interpreter software for looking at logged data, specs and data sheets on all the sensors we use, as well as very well written ECU user manuals. No extra charge. To use anything less on customer cars is something we chose not to do. The other Porsche shops across the country that we deal with always understand Motec. So on a professional level it makes no sense to use anything else. There are hundreds of hours spent over the years to make the engines run as well as a factory cars, making it respond to every command, pass DEQ tests etc. We run closed loop lambda using the Bosch LSU 4.9 sensor, no adapters needed, sensor calibration is in the software, reads exactly the same as our high dollar ECM system we use on the engine dyno. This can only happen if you know your product inside out as well as the expertly written software. Just one opinion here, but a picky one. +1 that Peter Florance is a stand up MS guy. Worked with him several times and it was always a good experience.

To all who have contributed to this thread, thank you for your insight, it certainly helps us who are not as skilled.
I too have the decision ahead of me as to which EFI to use, albeit my engine is not turbo-supercharged. I still am awaiting an EFI that will deal with CoP on a dual plugged engine, but have much to learn about how that all works. There are threads on this forum that deal with the CoP issue....but I remain uncertain as to how to proceed. Thanks again, Dennis |

I'll throw Adaptronic in there: Adaptronic - Energise Your Engine!
I've used it on 2 cars and will with another upcoming project. $1000 for the unit, another $200 for the ignitors, coils and MAP sensor. Andy, the owner, designer and manufactoring manager is a great guy. Keep your CIS system 100% fully intact (clean out your fuel head with carb cleaner first before storage) for resale with the car later.

May I use this thread for one question about inexpensive controller for fuel injection only?
I'd like to try and maintain the distributor for looks and I have already had the distributor core modded for fully tunable/map one. Some have used ms1 for FI but I haven't found any other simple controllers. The controller needs to understand rising or low edge from the distributor. Buying a full system for future upgrade is of course one option and that has been covered already in this thread.

You dont have to use megasquirt for ignition. I would go as high as your budget allows the difference between 1 and 3 is not that big and I just saw where MS 3 has a knock sensor module that has room for 2 sensors also MS 3 comes with idle air control as native as well as many other features like the sd card for logs and a true USB connection instead of the serial connection. Many useful features. If you need the complete setup then you can always get the Bitz kit I would suggest bigger injectors and fuel pressure regulator than Tony suggests and the MS 3 upgrade is an additional 199 dollars. You can always purchase a complete 3.2 intake with the fuel rails and all and then you just need the ECU from DIYautotune and the rest is easy to make up. Hope this helps with options.

another thing to remember is MS is open source. As new outputs and controls are developed they are easily integrated into your existing box. And if you happen to be a code writer the possibilities are endless at the things it can do. Want MS to change the radio station to a rock channel at anything over 70% throttle? Or maybe you want......
