Well i think it's finally time to pull it out for the efi swap.

Took the car out today to run some errands.I punched it heading down a side street and it sputtered and missed when the boost got it about .5 bar. after that it it was running rough like maybe one of my pos magnacore plug wires came loose. But it wasn't the I case had spark on all 6 cylinders. So I'll do a leak down next couple days and if i have a bad cylinder it'll be coming apart.

I cant drive it right now the way it's running. Cant think of any other reason other than broken rings for it to be runing like it is. There is spark to all 6 cylinders. I'll certainly let you know if i need any help. I'm pretty sure i will when it comes time to set up the MS-3, I'll need some help. I have the ms-3 with the expansion card and i got the knock control module for it. Twin coil on plugs. electronic boost control. 3.2 intake. already have the spare set of heads ported just need to get them flame ringed and twin plugged.

Probably just a sparkplug. In the cool air last night I think mine ran the best it ever has.
cold tires don't grip as well as in summertime though.

Have you had your magnecore wires come loose before? I have used them several times in the past , without any problems. However, I was out breaking in my 930 rebuild this fall. I had about 300 miles on it, and was starting to run it a little harder, and after one of the harder 3rd gear pulls I have done with it so far, it started missing.
I was shatting my pants, thinking, oh my gawd, I blew it up already. Pulled over, and with trembling hands, discovered that one of my wires came off the plug. Phew!

Yes they come loose all the time I hate them. when i go to EFI I'm going with coil on plugs no more issues with spark plug wires.

I had similar symptoms and it turned out to be the large round rubber gasket keeping the seal between intercooler and top of engine.

It's a quick, easy thing to replace.

Had the inter cooler off already tonight when i was checking the plug wires. That wasn't it also checked the rubber connection to the inlet to the turbo had that come loose before and cause a similar problem.

Yes they really are not very good. So for EFI it's coil on plugs. No more issues with spark plug wires of any kind. And really its about the same cost. A set of coils plus plug wires for 12. plugs or 12 coil on plugs is about the same cost without the hassle of wires shorting or disconnecting, etc.

If you go to an inductive coil on plug set up don't you loose alot of spark energy and spark rise time compared to capacitive discharge, and because of that have to use a smaller spark plug gap compared to aftermarket or Bosch CDI with a distributor?

I'm looking forward to your project as I'm hoping to do something very similar.

That said I don't wish broken rings on anyone and would like you to get started when you are ready and not because you are forced to.

Also, when you kick this project off I hope we get to see more pics of the blonde helping you out!

I'm using coil on plugs with a self igniter just needs a 5v signal to fire. So I can run it right off the MS-3.

A BMW 2002ti I had 30 years ago started running on 3 cylinders after flooring it once and I pulled plug wires to find the dead cylinder and when I removed the spark plug the white insulator had a little piece broken off.
I guess it was sparking from the center electrode sideways there where the porcelin was missing instead of to the ground electrode and like that it wasn't igniting the mixture and firing the cylinder.
Changed the plug and everything was back to normal so hopefully it's something simple like that on yours.
Merry Christmas!

I hope it's something simple like that. If it is I'll find it when i do the leak down test.

I'll be in Hollywood Test driving a new daily driver Wednesday. Decided if the car is coming apart for several months. Need something besides a beat up old pick up. Something that gets good mileage and i can use to go out on a date in. So looks like I'll be getting a Cayenne

I've heard prices on nice used ones are lower than you'd expect. I rode in a Cayenne turbo once and was amazed how fast it accelerated. The turbo S is even faster. The interior is very nice on them too.
