CV Bolts Exam.
![]() I tried a 10M Triple Square bit. It would not fit. It was too big. Used a 8M allen bit and this seemed to fit. Are the CV bolts 9M Triple Square?

Thanks Ken, that's what I thought. Going to pull those suckers tonight. Are there any rebuild kits available for the CV axles? Boots, bolts, and gaskets?

If the inside of the allen bolts gets rounded out a pair of seriously tightened vice grips with fresh sharp jaws becomes a last resort.
Gunk and a pressure washer will clean the transaxle but don't spray at the air vent on top. A stiff parts cleaning brush and mineral spirits works too but takes alot of time and kinda sucks. The rust is staining from rusty bolt heads and maybe phosphoric acid or some commercial rust stain remover will clean it off. |

If you want quick results... spray on degreaser and use a pressure washer. I bagged the reverse switch, differential outputs, the front shaft, and covered the vent plug on top. Mine came out just as clean in about half hour. A can of brake cleaner can help in some of the knooks and crannies for the last 3%.
Much better than doing it by hand.

Well I got the last remaining underside bits disconnected. I am approaching the home stretch.
Here is what I got completed tonight. 1. Removed clutch cable. 2. Removed return spring. 3. Previous owner used a twisted wire inplace of the c-clip Removed this and drop the lower lever arm. 4. Put a c clamp on the omega spring, compressed it, and removed it very easily with no drama. 5. Removed upper lever arm. 6. Next I turned my attention to the CV bolts. I used a M8 allen bit. I used a 16" breaker bar. Bolts loosened very easily. PB Blaster must have helped. One trick was to hold the left and right wheels while loosening the CV bolts. I left the CV bolts in place until I drop the motor and tranny. 7. Next I disconnected the lines going to the wastegate. One last thing that I still need to do is to zip tie the loose wire and cables out of the way of the engine and tranny. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Nice pictures and write-up. One question, how do you have your car lifted? On all 4's or just the rear 2?
Just curious, when you mentioned using the tires to help with the CV Bolts. I began to wonder why you left the rear tires on during all of this... I remember removing my CV bolts and went in from the side with a long extension [without the tires there].

Hi Mooney
I have car on 2 jacks. Left the wheels on becuase I have a somewhat small garage, and I am going to have to move the car halfway out when I do the engine tranny drop. I will be pulling half axles to do a rebuild on them. Regards John
