I've wondered if it's a real moth or not.. It looks real at first but then she changes the camera angle a little and the eyes start glowing. Kinda weird and it gives the video more charm.
Maybe she should become a movie director and Jeff can be the producer

Glad the clutch is working right now!

Thanks Jim, that moth is definitely real (and tiny compared to Pauls moth). Amanda should be an actress, not a director!

So I took the car out for its initial shakedown run tonight. Only went a few miles since the alignment is way, way out of spec after replacing so many suspension bits. Car ran fine, if a little rich. I need to get my fuel pressure gauges out and connected to test pressures, then I can finish buttoning it up and get it to the shop to get aligned.

I still have a nice oil leak that seems to be coming from a place that I didn't take apart. I am guessing changing from dino to synthetic oil can cause this. Will it get better, or am I doomed to dino oil for now?

Jeff,

I'm happy to here of the progress! I am worried that the last question in your post may plunge this, one of my favorite threads, into a dino v synth abyss. This thread has it all- a good vibe, collaboration, perseverance, avant guard cinematography, etc. Let's try to keep it that way.

If things do get heated on the oil front, I may have to come over the top and suggest you install a trinary pressure switch on your AC and put the thread out of its misery!

What is wrong with Dino oil? I use Valvoline VR1 20 50. Seems to be a great oil. Synthetic imo should be left for modern machines that call for them.

Paul!

Let's put it this way, oil is not high on my list right now...

We've had a real challenge sourcing the sexy sheet metal for the driver's rear quarter. First, we were provided used parts that were sub par condition. Another supplier quoted a quarter for a cabriolet (damn details). The shop owner I work with was about to go 1970's and weld the 11" flare on a Carrera panel. Then, out of the heavens, a factory new panel was found in the motherland (for a small ransom and overnight fee). Car goes on the rack Saturday for a little rub 'n tug and reassembly.

Time to go wheel shopping!

For starters, synthetic oils have higher flash-points than non-synthetic oils, so that alone makes them a much better choice for turbocharged engines (especially aircooled). That's one of the reasons that synthetics have been used as standard practice in small aircraft engines for many years - talking engines manufactured in the 1960s-to-brand new.

IMO conventional oils have come a long way. Of course by all means if one desires synthetic oils..then feel free to do so. It's your car. Anti wear(ZDDP) and detergents are constantly evolving. Raw materials that make the additives are being improved as well. Yes some oils are better than others but what one needs is different than what one wants.. Using synthetic may be the key if you change oil every 10k miles but for those who change their oil more frequently it might be a waste of money....of course this is just my opinion...except the part of the ZDDP and detergents...I make the stuff for a living..

For the record we used to run VR1 20-50 in the 935, we switched to 5-40 liqui-moly. The reason behind this decision is the 5-40 dissipates heat faster, and provides more flow at the same pressure under race conditions then the thicker 20-50. More flow is always better for bearings and less heat means more hours before we junk the heads.

Alignment appointment is set for Wednesday.

There is still a shot I can make to turbo-palooza! Thursday is out, but Friday and/or Saturday is possible.

I got my datalogging working last night to log AFR and boost and will see what I am looking at as far as tuning goes once I get some data.

Had the car out again last night for a little longer shakedown and was able to get it on boost for very short periods. Wow is all I can say!

Power tech in Rockaway NJ. Indy porsche shop with a great rep. I love going there because there are always great cars to check out. Last time they had a great race prepped 930 and a couple beautiful long hoods.

Bought an external mic for the gopro and finally got a decent video today. Really getting to enjoy the 930 this past month.

LOVING that I can hear the turbo whistle, the off throttle burbles, cracks and pops and no wind noise at speed with the gopro and external mic setup.

Use proper speakers and enjoy:

I really need to dial in the WUR. I just don't know where to start. I am definitely too rich and have pressure gauges and a PLX wideband AFR gauge, but every time I read another thread about it, I get more confused. Little help anyone? Where do I start?
