Cylindeer Head Temp Sensor

Hi All

I am currently using a Bosch CHT sensor. It's fitted in the head of cylinder number 3.
Warms up very quickly. I would like to retain this, but I don't want to have to take apart the shroud in order to test the temperature calibration.

Anyone have any data on this sensor?

Thanks

John

Hi John, I have my sensor installed on cylinder #1, and just have to pull off the cover plate at the end of the shroud to get to the sensor. About 10 min work to get at it. Philip

Now that I think about it, I should be able to check temperature and ohms as the car warms up using my current setup.

If you don't want to have to build your own sensor and prefer a bolt-on solution for engine temperature:

This is a simple kit to install. The heads warm up more quickly than the 10+ liters of oil, and more accurately reflects the engine's temperature for a warm-up cycle.

Hey Dos531(Derek)

Sent you a PM regarding tracking number.

Thanks

I like that TK set up, how does it attach to the head? Drill and tap a hole in a fin?

Looks like something new is on the way.

Sensor's plate insert between the fins, protrudes through small slit in #3 sheetmetal, sensor's mounting block attaches to plate. Super simple, more than accurate enough to serve as a reliable engine temp sensor.
Compared to using oil temp -- the engine warms up sooner, so gets out of cold start mode sooner, drives better sooner.

Why do ECU manufacturers insist on mounting connectors atop the ECU? No more mounting it under the seat like factory -- if someone lowers the seat and adjusts it fore-aft, it hits the ECU connector.

Not really. DIY Auto Tune posted it as the banner image on their Facebook page. The Performance Racing Industry trade show is this week in Indianapolis so maybe they will announce something there.

Exactly! AEM and MS3Pro both do this.

Haltech Elite has it right!!!

I have my ms3 pro under the seat and there is plenty of room between it and the bottom of the seat.

The one thing I really don't like about the connectors being on top of the ecu is the danger of something falling inside the connector socket and wreaking some sort of havoc.

How difficult is it to install with the engine in the car?

Easy

I can't stand top mounted connectors either. Ok for a race car where you need access. Not great for a street car where you mount discrete. No options for 90 deg connector either. Same problem from many vendors.

John, do you have a tuner locally that can help you with this once your done? Philip

jpilcher 12-10-2016 12:46 PM

Hey Philip

Yes, There is a dyno shop in Burlington that tunes Megasquirts, 20 minutes from my place.
I should be able to get off boost map dialed in. Boost really needs a dyno. Especially on ignition side. Hoping to get some help from Pelican brain trust.

Your lucky to have someone so close, it's a 4 hour drive at least for me, to the closest Porsche tuner/dyno. ;(
