I talked with him this morning. He has had a recent death in the family. Cut him some slack for not being responsive. He will get back to you.

terje 04-12-2012 01:13 PM

Got hold of him today.
He will ship out my parts today.

A friend here in Sweden is still waiting for his Dogherty camshafts, with a promised two weeks turn around time. He paid them in full incl. return shipping early Feb.

My friends problem is that he has the MFI pump ser up for the cam profile, and he is building an rallye engine for a very famous driver. The car is supposed to start in the Midnight Sun Rally, which is one of the most famous vintage rallys we have in Europe.

So now my friends customer is blaming my friend, and this will potentially ruin his career as a rally car builder.

This is not good, I know John have had a tough spring, but there are other peoples careers at stake here. I dont think it is too much to expect him to honor his promises, especially when paid in full.

He is not answering either emails (with one exception plus when he accepted the order) or the phone.

If anyone could reach im leaving this message, I would appreciate it. I feel especially bad since I recommended John in the first place. This is NOT a good place to be in, considering how small the Porsche community is over here in Sweden.

Regards,

Johan

This is the last thing I wanted to do.

John,

I have been a big supporter and defender of you and your business over the years. In the past you always treated us well and delivered in a timely manner. Now, it is time to send our two sets of cams, springs and rockers, and respond to our emails and voicemails. NOW.......

We have two builds going in racecars that are missing races as we wait for these parts. You have my contact info, please use it and update me.

Cheers

That's bad news, he still has my left hand cam for a scavenge pump drive boss addition. Sent it 3 months ago with a promised 1 week turn around.

jsoderbe 04-22-2012 02:59 AM

Everyone can have a rough time, and looking back at the forum posts it seems like John have been struggling for the last 6 months. Probably for a good reason, like illness in the family, as claimed by him.

But it is NOT ok to accept orders, promising two weeks turnaround time, accept the payment including return shipping, knowing you already are struggling and most likely cant keep the promise.

Peoples reputation, careers and income are at stake here, and that is NOT ok. Sure, my friend can always cough up the $2200 similar cams cost in Germany, file a fraud claim against Camgrinder and maybe get some money back. But as a Porsche enthusiast you always believe when someone well-known says they are struggling, and promise to do right. And, he have quoted the engine work based on Dogherty cams, not based on German retail prices.

Johan

John,

Me, too. I echo Jeff when I have been sympathetic to your situation, understanding of delays, etc. I hate to do this, but this cannot go on any longer. I'm sorry. I have been Wayyy beyond patient. I need to get my $$$ or cams back now.

No, still no answer, reply or anything remotely close to an attempt to contact him. Worst part is that my friend is not even pissed like I am, he is just dejected. He is a hard working guy, building engines for historic rally and racing out of his garage. This will damage his cashflow and/or his credibility.

John, Par Gotberg in Sweden needs his cams or a refund a.s.a.p. so he can complete the engine. I dont want to make any ultimatums at this point, out of respect for your most likely very difficult situation. Please make good on your promise, or refund payment, before it is too late.

Best regards,

Johan

The forum is a nice marketing tool for guys in this business. Doubt posting here is going to have any impact.
He did my cams, took quite awhile, and emails were slow.. but it got done. Hopefully it gets done soon for you.

Perhaps if you know someone near him they can drop by... The only other thing that could work is a kind but firm letter from an attorney. That usually gets poeples attention.

AlfonsoR 04-26-2012 02:21 PM

I agree with Brad, if JohnD is too busy to make good on his orders, he is not going to have time to visit Pelican. The guy really is busy is the impression i get from this and other similar posts.

But why doesn't your friend simply buy from another company. Yes, he might have to front the cost of the cams ~ $1,000, but isn't it worth it to keep your good reputation? JohnD being the good guy he is, will eventaully refund your money, I would think.

Jeff Alton 04-26-2012 03:18 PM

I have bought a few sets of cams from John over the years, and had plenty of rockers ground and rebushed by him as well. Service was always reasonable. He took my deposit of over 800.00 on March 7th. Has not responded to a single email or phone call since.

I just opened a dispute with visa, now all that is at risk is the two sets of rockers I sent down. Ordering from WebCams tomorrow.

Cheers
